About The Position

The Programming & Engagement Specialist is responsible for supporting communities with vacant or transitional Programming & Engagement leadership positions by providing hands-on operational, programming, and engagement support across all levels of care, including Assisted Living, Independent Living, and Memory Care. This role requires a highly energetic, adaptable, and relationship-driven individual who can quickly build trust with residents, families, and team members while maintaining Civitas programming standards, culture, and engagement expectations. The Programming & Engagement Specialist must be able to travel up to 100% of the time and successfully step into community operations with minimal direction. This position serves as a key support partner to community leadership and the corporate Programming & Engagement team.

Requirements

  • Experience in senior living programming, resident engagement, or dementia care required.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to quickly adapt to new environments and changing operational needs.
  • Must possess a vibrant, outgoing, and highly engaging personality with the ability to build relationships quickly.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills required.
  • Ability to independently lead programming operations with minimal supervision.
  • Must have compassion for and desire to work with the elderly.
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work responsibly as both a team member and an individual contributor.
  • Must be honest, dependable, professional, and maintain confidentiality.

  • Experience planning and executing engagement programs for residents with varying cognitive and physical abilities.
  • Ability to support and train community team members as needed.
  • Must maintain applicable dementia-specific training requirements.
  • Requires current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Must meet all health requirements.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Must be willing and able to travel up to 100% of the time, including overnight travel.
  • Must pass criminal background check.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as required by state regulations for Activities/Life Enrichment preferred.
  • Previous experience in both traditional senior living programming and Memory Care programming strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Temporarily fill vacant Programming & Engagement leadership positions within assigned communities.
  • Lead and execute resident-centered engagement programs across all levels of care, including Independent Living, Assisted Living, and Memory Care.
  • Maintain required daily programming standards and ensure compliance with Civitas Programming & Engagement expectations.
  • Personally engage residents daily by knocking on doors, escorting residents to activities, and building meaningful connections.
  • Quickly establish positive relationships with residents, families, and team members to support community culture and resident engagement.
  • Coordinate and lead activities, events, outings, entertainment, and specialty programming.
  • Develop and maintain monthly calendars, newsletters, and activity documentation that meet Civitas standards and deadlines.
  • Ensure accurate attendance tracking, photo documentation, and engagement reporting for all scheduled activities.
  • Monitor resident participation and identify residents at risk for isolation or declining engagement.
  • Support onboarding and engagement integration for new residents.
  • Provide support, coaching, and guidance to community engagement team members and assistants as needed.
  • Maintain organized, clean, and audit-ready activity spaces, offices, and storage areas.
  • Manage programming budgets, purchase supplies, and submit required expense documentation in a timely manner.
  • Ensure Memory Care programming reflects the unique cognitive, emotional, and behavioral needs of residents living with dementia.
  • Support community compliance with applicable programming, dementia care, and resident rights regulations.
  • Provide resident transportation services and support community outings as needed.
  • Attend required meetings, trainings, and company initiatives.
  • Travel extensively to assigned communities based on operational need.
  • Follow company policies and perform additional duties as assigned.
