Programmer - Weekday Swing Shift

SendCutSend•Reno, NV
•Onsite

About The Position

As a Programmer, you help keep production running efficiently by ensuring parts move seamlessly through the laser cutting process. You ensure machines have adequate workloads and programs are properly nested to prevent tip-ups and head collisions. You optimize nests to avoid slowdowns and maximize machine runtime, maintain high beam time, and equip lasers for continuous 24/7 operation. The role is primarily desk-based on the production floor and uses manufacturing and production software. It involves collaboration with operators, production staff, and leadership, as well as occasional work on the production floor around CNC lasers, press brakes, and material-handling equipment. The work environment includes exposure to noise, moving machinery, and metal materials; required protective equipment must be worn at all times. The schedule is Monday through Thursday, 3:00 PM to 1:00 AM. The advertised pay range is $28.00–$45.00 per hour.

Requirements

  • Experience in laser cutting, CNC, or similar manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with programmable production equipment.
  • Basic understanding of material properties, including metals, plastics, and composites.
  • Working knowledge of nesting strategies, tab placement, and material optimization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with machine operators and production partners.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced production setting.
  • Ability to sit or stand at a workstation for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Ability to use a computer, keyboard, and input devices for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to occasionally walk the production floor to coordinate with the laser team.
  • Ability to repeatedly lift 25 pounds and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, reach, and move safely around industrial equipment as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience creating programs and optimizing nests for laser cutting, CNC machining, or other automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience planning, prioritizing, or supporting production workloads.
  • Strong understanding of material utilization and waste reduction practices.
  • Exposure to a continuous-improvement or efficiency-focused manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain laser programs that support daily production needs.
  • Provide operators with the workload needed to plan and strategize upcoming nests.
  • Build and optimize nests for efficient cutting, material usage, and proper tab placement to prevent parts from flipping during production.
  • Pre-measure and strategically use remnants to reduce material waste and minimize operator rework.
  • Communicate with operators about programs requiring additional information.
  • Assist the laser team with denesting or other tasks when all machines are running at full capacity.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
