About The Position

Acadian Ambulance has an immediate opening for a part time Programmer Intern in the Information Technology department. The selected candidate will support the GIS and IT teams by developing scripts and tools that automate GIS processes and help maintain ArcGIS Enterprise systems used in public safety operations. This internship provides hands-on experience with GIS automation, backend development, and spatial data management. Schedule - 15 to 20 hours per week during the academic term. Opportunity for additional hours during school breaks.

Requirements

Current student majoring in Computer Science, Information Technology, Geography, or GIS
Coursework or project experience with programming or scripting
Basic knowledge of C#, Python, or SQL preferred
Exposure to scripting tools such as PowerShell or Bash preferred
Familiarity with REST APIs and JSON concepts preferred
Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
Interest in GIS technology, automation, and backend systems

Nice To Haves

Exposure to ArcGIS, ArcPy, or ArcGIS API for Python
Basic understanding of Windows Server environments or networking concepts

Responsibilities

Assist in developing automation tools using C#, Python, PowerShell, and SQL
Support ArcGIS Enterprise administration and system monitoring
Write scripts to automate GIS data updates and routine administrative tasks
Help maintain spatial databases and perform data cleanup queries
Test GIS applications, dashboards, and services after updates or system changes
Document scripts, workflows, and automation tools
Collaborate with GIS administrators, IT staff, and developers on technical projects
Follow data security and privacy standards for public safety systems
