About The Position

Carefirst Seniors & Community Services Association is a non-profit charitable community services agency established since 1976. Our spectrum of services has grown from the delivery of Chinese meals-on-wheels service to a full range of community support services, covering the whole Greater Toronto Area. With a staff of 550 members (including full-time and part-time staff) and the help of a pool of 850 active volunteers, we serve over 15,000 clients a year, including seniors, adults, youth with physical, social, emotional and health challenges. 3,000 of whom are "home-bound" and frail. We are currently seeking a Program Worker to fill a vacant position at our Adult Day Program.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Leisure and Activation Studies, Gerontology or other related healthcare studies
  • Strong sensitivity and awareness of the aging process and the physical needs of elderly clients
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Compassionate with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • High degree of judgment and capacity to maintain confidentiality
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Possess valid Ontario driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for work
  • Fluent in English and a second language that reflects the community served, e.g. Cantonese, Mandarin
  • Available to work on weekends and evenings as required
  • Current certification in First Aid & CPR and Food Handling
  • Valid vulnerable sector police record check completed within one year

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in delivering exercise program for seniors is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Support clients with social, educational, recreational, and daily living activities
  • Assist in planning and organizing activities based on clients’ cognitive and physical capabilities
  • Assist in program preparation including purchasing of program supplies, creating flyers, developing activity calendar, and producing education material, etc.
  • Maintain a safe program environment by ensuring cleanliness, equipment upkeep and inventory management
  • Provide administrative and clerical support, including client’s scheduling, transportation arrangement, billing, data entry, filing, responding to inquiries and order supplies, etc.
  • Perform food preparation and meal planning
  • Facilitate both onsite and virtual social and exercise program to the participants
  • Organized records and maintain an efficient filing system
  • Perform other duties as assigned
