About The Position

The Program Technician will be responsible for implementing the goals and objectives of the Extension soil fertility programs to improve the understanding of soil fertility, nutrient management, and forage crop management for hay and pasture production. The Program Technician will operate in an independent, decision-making role in planning and execution of the soil fertility program. Work objectives are coordinated with Dr. Bronc Finch (Supervisor) and others in the program, but implementation will be primarily the responsibility of the Program Technician. The Program Technician will be expected to communicate and collaborate with extension and research faculty, staff, and students, as well as other stakeholders, as needed to effectively contribute to the goals and objectives of the extension soil fertility program.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Soil Science, Agronomy, or a related field is required.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Must be able to work outside during sunny and hot conditions in summer as well as cold conditions in fall, winter, or spring.
  • Must have the ability to travel, with potential of long working hours that may include occasional overnight stays.
  • Expected to have or be willing to secure and maintain an Arkansas Pesticide Application License and FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot License (if needed).
  • Uphold a commitment to fostering a diverse, collaborative, and collegial work environment.
  • Exercise initiative, sound judgement, and work without close supervision, while maintaining the ability to respond to the needs of supervisors, subordinates, and clientele.
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • A master’s degree in Soil Science, Agronomy, or a related field
  • Experience background in forage crop or pasture lands management and/or soil fertility nutrient management experience.
  • Experience with data collection in agricultural setting, data analysis, coordinating with County Agricultural Agents, Extension Specialists, and Researchers, and farmers is preferred.
  • Current Arkansas Pesticide Application License.
  • Current FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot License.
  • Experience operating and maintaining equipment, with the ability to repair equipment upon failure, is preferred.
  • Leadership experience, motivation, and creativity are desirable traits as well.
