About The Position

Applicants seeking short-term or part-time work with the University of Hawai’i may apply for Casual Hire appointments, which include administrative, professional, and technical (APT) or instructional-type positions. Because of the temporary nature of these appointments, Casual Hire employees are not eligible for most benefits provided to regular Board of Regents or Civil Service employees. Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees, and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees.

Requirements

  • Possession of a High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and 1 year of experience in eSports.
  • Functional knowledge of esports team operations, including best practices and industry standards for team practices, matches and competition preparation.
  • Functional knowledge of esports operations within a higher education environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate schedules, team logistics and communications between players and leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a positive, inclusive and competitive team culture that supports player development and academic success.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with larger eSports community, including prospective players at the University and high school levels
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with players, teams, and other stakeholders to support the eSports team.
  • Ability to work a variable work schedule; and work outside normally scheduled work hours including day, night, weekend and/or holiday hours as directed.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience supporting esports programs or competitive gaming events within a higher education environment.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a member of the UH eSports team who leads, manages and coaches the UH Manoa Valorant teams
  • Organizes and oversees team practices, matches and competition preparation, including managing the coordination of schedules, team logistics, communications with players and other leadership.
  • Fosters a positive, inclusive, and competitive team culture that supports player development and academic success.
  • Build and strengthen the UHE Valorant community through events and engagement initiatives, while assisting with recruiting prospective players from across the University of Hawai?i at Manoa and local high schools to help grow the program.
  • Other duties as assigned.
