About The Position

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Program Support Technician in our Human Resources (HR) Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to: Managing the Virginia State Police Medical Office and providing the sole administrative and programmatic support for the Department's Medical Staff who are responsible for the Department's Employee Health and Safety Program. Assisting the Medical Office with the Department's Weight Control Policy, Physical Survey and In-Service lab programs as well as data management and presentations. Maintaining confidential medical records and updating and maintaining computer files.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of filing systems.
  • Knowledge of record keeping procedures.
  • Knowledge of standard English grammar and punctuation.
  • Knowledge of medical office practices and procedures.
  • Skill in data entry.
  • Skill in keyboarding.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer.
  • Skill in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to perform CPR/AED and First Aid.
  • Ability to check vital signs.
  • Ability to perform vision testing, hearing testing and Girthing.
  • Ability to assist the Nurse Practitioner or Physician with patients on as needed basis.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English.
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust priorities as necessary.
  • Ability to learn new tasks and expand knowledge and skills to support program needs.
  • Ability to interact professionally with all individuals encountered in the course of work.
  • Training in CPR/AED and First Aid.
  • Office experience in keyboarding, filing, data entry and medical record keeping required.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or training in health-related field preferred.
  • Experience in using audiometers preferred.
  • Prior experience as a licensed practical nurse, medical assistant/technician or phlebotomist is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting the Medical Office with the Department's Weight Control Policy, Physical Survey and In-Service lab programs as well as data management and presentations.

  • May be asked to assist the Workplace Safety Section with gas mask fitting and evaluation on an as needed basis.
  • May be asked to assist with medical programs that operate on an alternate schedule.
