About The Position

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Program Support Technician Senior in our Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division at our Administrative Headquarters in North Chesterfield, Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to: Providing advanced support for the Civil & Applicant Records Exchange (CARE) program within the CJIS Division. Processing and reviewing criminal history background check requests. Researching and updating missing disposition records. Maintaining program databases and tracking systems. Disseminating criminal history information in accordance with established statutes, policies, and procedures.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to the dissemination of criminal records, barrier crime statutes for employment, and their equivalent.
  • Knowledge of state and federal criminal history databases Virginia Criminal Information Network/ National Crime Information Center (VCIN/NCIC).
  • Knowledge of research and analysis techniques and methodologies.
  • Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Skill in the operation of desktop computers and Microsoft Office applications and databases to access and retrieve data and records.
  • Skill in organization and time management.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply research and analytical methodology in the interpretation of criminal arrest and disposition information.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret policies, procedures, state and federal automated records and other criminal history data.
  • Ability to conduct research and apply appropriate good judgement analytical and evaluative techniques.
  • Ability to apply critical thinking and sound judgement to interpret laws, regulations, and other source documents to formulate conclusions and provide recommendations.
  • Ability to provide attention to detail and organization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English with staff, external agencies and officials, and the public as required.
  • Direct experience associated with Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN)/National Crime Information Center (NCIC) required.
  • Must be Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified or ability to become certified within three months of hire.
  • Requires Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified, which requires either United States citizenship or a lawful permanent resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in retrieval and interpretation of criminal arrest and disposition information preferred.
  • Experience working in a public safety environment and with sensitive and confidential information preferred.
