About The Position

The Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS) is a social and human services agency whose mission is to successfully partner with families, caregivers, and the community to strengthen families, ensure safety, and achieve permanency for all Arizona’s children through prevention, services, and support. As a Program Supervisor – Investigations, you’ll lead a team of professionals who play a critical role in protecting children and supporting families. This is an opportunity to put your DCS experience to work in a leadership role—coaching staff, guiding case decisions, solving complex problems, and helping your team deliver quality child safety services. You’ll work closely with DCS leadership and staff to keep your unit moving forward, ensure sound case practice, and develop employees into confident, capable child welfare professionals.

Bachelor's or master's degree from an accredited college or university and three (3) years of experience with the Arizona Department of Child Safety (DCS).
Bachelor's or master's degree and: Two (2) years of combined experience in the DCS Specialist Trainee, DCS Specialist, DCS Program Specialist, Investigator Sr., or Assistant Manager role; and Six (6) months of experience in a DCS Program Supervisor Special Assignment role.
Bachelor's or master's degree and: Two (2) years of combined experience in the DCS Specialist Trainee, DCS Specialist, DCS Program Specialist, Investigator Sr., or Assistant Manager role; and One (1) year of professional-level supervisory experience. Professional-level supervisory experience means responsibility for managing personnel, allocating resources, conducting performance evaluations, reviewing salaries, and making personnel action recommendations.
Bachelor's or master's degree and five (5) years of combined experience with a government or Tribal child welfare agency, or an Arizona agency specializing in child welfare practice.
Secure and maintain Central Registry clearance.
Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Pass a DCS background check.
Meet applicable driver’s license requirements, as driving or use of a vehicle is an essential function of this position.

Responsibilities

Direct, supervise, and support DCS Specialists, Case Aides, and support staff.
Coach employees and provide guidance on case practice, policy, and decision-making.
Identify employee strengths and development opportunities.
Conduct regular performance discussions and complete employee evaluations.
Address performance concerns and initiate disciplinary action when necessary.
Develop work schedules and manage unit workflow.
Interview and train new staff.
Review casework and analyze information gathered by DCS Specialists.
Provide consultation and direction on complex cases.
Evaluate assessments, decisions, intervention plans, case plans, progress, barriers, placement, services, and visitation.
Ensure casework supports child safety, quality practice, and compliance with applicable requirements.
Help staff navigate challenging situations and make sound, informed decisions.
Respond to questions and concerns from families, case participants, DCS staff, customers, and other stakeholders.
Resolve issues involving policy, procedures, and individual cases.
Participate in management meetings, training, professional development, and problem-solving activities.
Prepare, review, and use reports to monitor and support unit operations.
Take on other duties as assigned.
