About The Position

For more than 65 years, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami has been creating life-changing mentoring relationships that empower young people to reach their full potential. Through the power of one-to-one mentorship, we help children build confidence, achieve greater educational success, and realize brighter futures. We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and relationship-driven Program Specialist to join our Programs team. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting youth, families, mentors, schools, and community partners while advancing the mission of one of South Florida's most respected nonprofit organizations. The Program Specialist serves as the primary point of contact for volunteers, youth, families, and community partners throughout the mentoring experience. This role is responsible for recruiting and enrolling volunteer mentors, facilitating mentoring matches, providing ongoing match support, and ensuring program quality and child safety in accordance with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami standards. Upon hire, the Program Specialist will be assigned to one of the following mentoring programs: School-Based Mentoring, School-to-Work Mentoring, Community-Based Mentoring, College Readiness & High School Graduate Support. As the organization grows, Program Specialists are cross-trained across additional mentoring programs to broaden their knowledge and impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, Human Services, or a related field preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience in case management, youth development, education, social services, nonprofit programs, or a related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other business software applications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to serving youth and strengthening communities.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Guide volunteers, youth, and families through the enrollment and matching process.
  • Facilitate mentor introductions and provide ongoing support throughout the mentoring relationship.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with mentors, families, schools, and community partners.
  • Coordinate program activities while ensuring exceptional service to all participants.
  • Recruit, interview, and onboard volunteer mentors.
  • Conduct volunteer orientations and training sessions.
  • Educate volunteers on mentoring best practices, child safety, and program expectations.
  • Conduct regular check-ins with mentors, youth, and families.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and case records.
  • Monitor match quality, participant engagement, and program outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with BBBS of Miami policies, procedures, and child safety standards.
