About The Position

Mendocino-Lake Community College District is seeking an equity-minded Program Specialist - Student Retention for their Hispanic Serving Institute department. This is a temporary, non-continuing position focused on supporting a diverse student population and the District Mission. The role involves providing program support, developing projects, and delivering stakeholder deliverables under the direction of a manager. The college is committed to diversity and seeks candidates who demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Requirements

  • Must meet Human Resources guidelines for qualified hiring; including by not limited to a Live Scan background check and completion of TB test.
  • Must have at least two years of experience in an administrative/educational environment
  • AA required
  • Employee must possess valid Class C driver's license, and an acceptable driving record.
  • Must have access to personal vehicle (subject to mileage reimbursement) that can safely drive throughout Lake and Mendocino Counties.
  • Demonstrate a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of stakeholders

  • Occasional outdoor environmental exposure; including but not limited to events and/or special projects.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates, and conducts activities and/or programs
  • Designs and delivers presentation and workshops as required
  • Serves as a liaison between Mendocino College and appropriate stakeholders
  • Disseminates information on program
  • Coordinates schedules and makes appointments for stakeholders and program resources
  • Participates in department meetings, provides information and/or reports on relevant issues
  • Assists, follows up, and supports stakeholders regarding program processes and sourcing other available programs and services
  • Prepares and maintains a variety of correspondence, reports, documents, and forms; maintains and organizes records and files.
  • Keeps all necessary records and submit required paperwork in a timely manner
  • Operates a variety of office equipment including a computer and Microsoft Office software
  • Attends required meetings and professional development sessions as directed by the manager
  • Occasionally travel to off-site locations for program needs
  • Perform other duties, as assigned
  • Assist with in-reach and retention of students to enhance student completion and success
  • Proactively meet with students to monitor progress
  • Perform support services for student success and support programs
  • Involved in early alert system to connect with students who are under-performing in courses and may need additional support
  • Maintains records and confidential files
  • Promotes an anti-racist and culturally responsive student environment
