About The Position

This is specialized work supporting an Educational Policy Analyst – DOE - SES and the State programs staff of the Office of Student Financial Assistance in the Administration of the state funded financial aid programs. This position performs duties under the supervision of the Program Specialist Supervisor II-DOE-SES in the State Scholarships, Loans & Grants Section of the Office of Student Financial Assistance. The section administers financial assistance programs funded by state and federal sources including scholarships & grants and provides technical assistance to students, parents, high school and district personnel, and college financial aid officers. The employee must be productive under tight timeframes, balance multiple and competing priorities and maintain goal-directed behavior and performance sometimes under stressful conditions. The employee must interact courteously with others. The performance and behavior of all employees must demonstrate consideration of the workload concerns of others and must not negatively affect productivity and morale of the unit. Attendance is an essential function of this position.

Requirements

  • One to three years of professional experience in business operations, financial accounting, program management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively including verbal and written communication.
  • Experience in creating and conducting training courses.
  • Experience with public speaking.
  • Ability to provide work samples of writing skills for grammar, editing and communication review upon request.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains a computerized database to manage data on applicants for financial assistance programs funded by state and federal sources including scholarships and grants, including the Florida Bright Futures (BF) Scholarship Program.
  • Evaluates applicant information to determine eligibility, make award determinations, and ensure timely and accurate disbursement of funds to all eligible award recipients. For out-of-state military/public servant applicants the process also includes review and evaluation of academic transcripts for the BF program in conjunction with FDOE Office of Articulation.
  • Direct and coordinate the processing of documents pertaining to specific state administered financial aid programs including eligibility letters and verification forms to ensure the meeting of program requirements.
  • Provides technical assistance on program requirements to applicants, parents, and schools both orally and in writing including policy interpretation, appeal consideration, and judgments on eligible programs of study.
  • Assists in the implementation of State Board Rules, Florida Statutes, applications, and forms.
  • Oversee the management of programs and act as a resource person for Centralized Programs in the supervisor’s absence.
  • Participates in the development, revision, and implementation of State Board Rules, Florida Statutes, applications, and forms. Analyzes and recommends changes that may be required and drafts proposed language.
  • Performs other duties as required.
