About The Position

The position involves highly responsible work related to the State’s implementation of the federal Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act of 2006 as amended by the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (referred to as Perkin’s V) and subsequent iterations of the Act. Additionally, the position focus includes other state and federal initiatives related to Career and Technical Education as assigned. The Florida Department of Education (FDOE) has an open position that is responsible for executing the following functions: The capacity to perform well under pressure and maintain a clear, goal-oriented approach is essential in this role. We’re looking for a candidate who can remain focused and productive while managing tight deadlines and shifting priorities. Professionalism and courtesy in daily interactions contribute to a respectful and collaborative work environment, especially during periods of high workload. Demonstrating awareness of team dynamics and supporting a positive, productive atmosphere is important. Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the implementation of Perkins State Plan, evaluation of programs, services and activities to carry out under the Perkins Act.
  • Implementation of policies related to Perkins-defined Programs of Study
  • Support ongoing stakeholder engagement with entities both internal and externa to the FDOE
  • Provides support and assistance to local agencies during their local Comprehensive Local Needs Assessments
  • Reviews state plan to ensure that state is following strategies outlined in the plan and meeting requirements.
  • Makes recommendations for plan updates/ amendments.
  • Updates state plan as necessary.
  • Assists with the spring required updates to include but not limited to revisions to the State Plan and submission of budget.
  • Assists with the end of year required report to include but not limited to state performance and enrollment information, narrative questions and fiscal information
  • Assists with Perkins Grant recipients that are considered “high-risk” agencies as determined by their performance on specified accountability measures to improve performance on identified measures, to include required program improvement plans.
  • Analyzes data as it relates to the Perkins Act and makes recommendations for strategies to improve statewide performance and outreach to grant recipients.
  • Assists with the annual production of Perkins applications, implementation guide, and review of the programmatic sections of the applications (for example, programs of study and comprehensive local needs assessment sections).
  • Annual review of local agency applications of the program narrative section for the Perkins entitlement grant.
  • Responsible for providing technical assistance to local recipients for programs, services and activities related to Career and Technical Education.
  • Assists in the coordination and development of workshops and webinars designed for local recipients of the Perkins Grant centered on grant-related topics.
  • Works with local recipients of the Perkins Grant and Division of Career and Adult Education staff to develop a “Best Practices” program for grant recipients.
  • Utilizes available data from the Department of Education (DOE) and other appropriate services to provide technical assistance for career and technical education programs.
  • Collaborates and assists Division leadership in planning statewide and regional workshops/meetings to promote career and technical education.
  • Assists with the development of appropriate online training modules and other resources to provide technical assistance and disseminate information.
  • Assists with the development and updating of the DCAE website as it relates to all program aspects of Perkins V (e.g., equity and access, educator resources, Perkins V state plan, CLNA)
  • Consults with the quality assurance team in the monitoring and compliance process for Perkins V agencies.
  • Participates in regular webinars/conference calls with the Office of Career, Technical and Adult Education at the U.S. Department of Education
  • Monitors federal legislation as well as legislation in other states as it relates to career and technical education.
  • Actively participates with interdepartmental and interdivisional workgroups on Perkins-related activities.
  • Acts as the liaison between the Division and various external organizations in relation to career and technical education and Perkins implementation
  • Represents the Bureau at relevant state and national conferences, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Position may require serving as a grant or contract manager and will require formal grant training provided by the Department.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
