About The Position

This position performs intermediate level work under the general supervision of the Program Specialist Supervisor II in the Communications Unit in the Communication & Policy Development Section, Bureau of Educator Certification, Division of Public Schools. This position provides educator certification information to internal and external customers and evaluates and processes individuals’ credentials to determine eligibility for an educator’s certificate pursuant to Florida Statutes, State Board of Education Rules, and Department/Bureau policies covering all subject areas.

Requirements

  • Technology and computer skills
  • Knowledge of Florida State Board of Education Rules and procedures governing issuance of Educator’s Certificates and renewal of certificates.
  • Thorough knowledge of the application process.
  • Skills in keyboarding, updating database files, operating imaging system and operating telephone system.
  • Ability to organize work activities, handle difficult situations to prevent problems.
  • Ability to prepare forms for computer entry, to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

Responsibilities

  • Research and identification of college/university programs and individual college courses to meet Florida educator certification requirements as established in the State Board of Education Rules.
  • Review and evaluate documents submitted from other countries to determine applicability to meet Florida educator certification requirements as established in State Board of Education Rules.
  • Conducts research and responds to educator certification inquiries from applicants, public, university/school district personnel, and Program Specialist I within the via telephone, written correspondence, email, or face-to-face in the office visitor unit.
  • Prepares official correspondence of educator certification eligibility including statements of status of eligibility and/or issuance of certificates.
  • Documents all telephone calls, emails, and office visitors and takes appropriate follow-up actions on customer’s files.
  • Assure that appropriate background screening clearance is on file prior to issuance of an educator’s certificate.
  • Assists telephone unit staff as needed with calls requiring advanced certification knowledge.
  • Perform other duties as requested and assist the unit supervisor and other Bureau staff as necessary.
