About The Position

The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS) has a career opportunity within Early Childhood and Family Support Division, Family and Community Health Bureau. The Program Specialist assists in administering the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) in line with program grant and regulatory requirements. The Program Specialist position coordinates with and oversees WIC vendor activities. This position serves as a liaison for the State WIC Program regarding authorization of WIC retailers.

Requirements

• Knowledge of public health program management principles and practices.
• Knowledge of public health interventions and quality improvement.
• General knowledge of federal and state laws related to grants and contracts.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including public speaking.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to research, develop, and implement public health interventions.
• Bachelor’s degree in public health, behavioral/social sciences, or clinical sciences or a related field.
• Two years of job related experience in health education or health programming.

Responsibilities

• Providing technical assistance regarding WIC transactions
• Perform on-site visits and pre-authorization inspections at WIC vendors
• Process program complaints
• Work with Nutrition Services to support program integrity
• Review and monitor WIC redemption data
