About The Position

Shoreline’s Financial Aid Office is looking to welcome a Program Specialist 2 whose knowledge, experience, and/or transferable skills are in alignment with the position needs and the College’s mission. The Enrollment Services & Financial Aid Office (ESFA) provide timely, accurate, and friendly service to all students, visitors, and members of the campus community. We work to ensure that all students have the opportunity to achieve their educational goals regardless of financial circumstances. Our goal is to serve others with an empathetic, responsive, and caring attitude. The Program Specialist 2 (PS2) is responsible for administering specialized financial aid programs in compliance with federal, state, and institutional policies. This position will provide customer service to students and families in person, on the phone and through email. Additionally, this position completes financial aid file review and aid determination for one or more federal/state/institutional financial aid programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree; OR Equivalent Education/Experience
  • MS Office Access, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams, and Word; communication platforms such as Zoom
  • Financial aid best practices in a higher education environment
  • Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness
  • Time management, organization, and ability to meet competing deadlines/priorities
  • Accuracy and attention, while working both independently and within a team environment
  • Effectively communicating complex information diverse groups of students and staff members
  • Effective customer service with evidence of multicultural understanding in support of student success
  • Ability to access, evaluate, and accurately apply information from a variety of internal and external resources
  • Serving diverse student populations, including historically underrepresented minorities, first generation, low-income, breadth of age range, students with disabilities, veterans, and international students
  • Promoting cooperation by building/managing constructive working relationships at all levels
  • Handling difficult and sensitive situations, using sound independent judgment within college/legal guidelines
  • Writing/editing/proofreading concise materials resulting in effective oral and written communication

Responsibilities

  • Independently and accurately review student financial aid applications to determine aid eligibility.
  • Interpret, apply and stay current with financial aid regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Use Federal and State financial aid systems and web sites such as National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS), Common Origination & Disbursement web site (COD), the Financial Aid Partner Portal (FPP) and Washington Student Achievement Council (WSAC) portal to perform daily tasks.
  • Counsel students and families regarding financial aid and the application process including other sources of funding such as Workforce Education and scholarships.
  • Provide effective customer service to current/potential students, the campus community, and the public with the goal of eliminating educational barriers to students.

  • This position works 40 hours per week, with a schedule dependent upon department needs.
