About The Position

The program nutritionist will be responsible for determining participants nutritional risk and needs, will prescribe supplemental food and provide individual/group counseling to WIC program participants. Attends and participates in staff meetings, in-service training and other professional and staff development activities. Supervises clinic operations including but not limited to high risk counseling; development of lesson plans and special activities. Assists in organizing and maintaining of general nutrition education materials and displays in the WIC clinics such as bulletin boards, pamphlets, food displays, etc. Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multi-cultural clientele.

Requirements

  • BS in Foods and Nutrition, community nutrition, or Dietetics
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multi-cultural clientele
  • Ability to work well independently and with a team
  • Able to serve multi-lingual clientele and /staff

Nice To Haves

  • Verification of IV/V or DPD from ADA preferred

Responsibilities

  • Explain reason for certification and risk factors
  • Discuss dangers of smoking/drug use/ alcohol use
  • Give Nutrition education
  • Offer breastfeeding information to pregnant and those currently breastfeeding
  • Discuss recall/diet assessment
  • Make appropriate referrals
  • Explain what foods to buy, when to spend checks and where to spend checks
  • Explain the food list
  • Supervise clinic operations including high risk counseling and development of lesson plans and special activities
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining general nutrition education materials and displays
