About The Position

The Center for Care Innovations (CCI) is seeking a collaborative, curious, and organized Program Manager to design and lead initiatives aimed at helping health care safety net organizations improve care and advance health equity. This role is ideal for an individual who thrives on bridging strategy and implementation, transforming ambitious ideas into practical initiatives, cultivating strong relationships, interpreting data and complex information, facilitating engaging learning experiences, and driving complex projects to completion. The ideal candidate will possess a solid understanding of the health care safety net ecosystem, with specialized experience in at least one key area. This is a highly relational and externally focused position, involving collaboration with healthcare organizations, funders, partners, and various stakeholders in both virtual and in-person environments.

Requirements

  • At least five years of experience managing complex initiatives, preferably in healthcare, public health, nonprofit, community-based, or related settings.
  • A master’s degree in public health, public policy, health care administration, nonprofit management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • A strong understanding of the health care safety net ecosystem, with deeper knowledge or experience in at least one area, such as Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), Medi-Cal Managed Care Plans, or other California safety net organizations.
  • Experience running or supporting learning collaboratives, accelerators, technical assistance initiatives, or other capacity-building efforts.
  • Excellent management skills to translate broad goals into clear work plans, timelines, roles, and deliverables, and to keep complex work moving forward.
  • Skilled at developing and maintaining trusted relationships with partners and stakeholders.
  • Confident and engaging communicator capable of presenting, facilitating, and translating complex information clearly for diverse audiences, including funders and external partners, both virtually and in person.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative data analysis skills, with the ability to use data to inform decision-making, learning, and communication.
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity, solving problems, experimenting with new approaches, and adjusting course based on learning.
  • A commitment to advancing health equity and improving care for historically underinvested communities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with human-centered design, particularly applying or teaching these methods in healthcare, community, or organizational settings.
  • Experience with quality improvement, change management, systems thinking, Lean/Six Sigma, Liberating Structures, or other approaches to organizational and systems change.
  • Knowledge of or experience with safety net healthcare delivery, including familiarity with clinical quality measures and performance improvement.
  • Bilingual or multilingual, particularly in Spanish and English, and/or experience working across cultures and communities.
  • Experience in consulting, advising, training, or other client-facing roles, including developing content or learning experiences for adult learners.

Responsibilities

  • Design initiatives that respond to real-world challenges by translating ideas into actionable plans through landscape research, stakeholder interviews, work planning, and content/learning experience development, potentially utilizing approaches like human-centered design, quality improvement, and organizational/systems change methods.
  • Lead initiatives through implementation by managing day-to-day operations, including timelines, deliverables, budgets, team roles, consultants, and grant requirements, while proactively addressing challenges, solving problems, coordinating cross-team efforts, and adapting to evolving work.
  • Build and steward strong relationships with key stakeholders, employing a responsive, collaborative, equity-centered, and service-oriented approach.
  • Create engaging learning experiences by designing and facilitating virtual and in-person convenings, workshops, and meetings, including preparing speakers, developing agendas, presenting content, facilitating discussions, and fostering a welcoming environment for participant learning and idea application.
  • Utilize data to inform learning, improvement, and impact communication by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data to assess initiative progress, identify improvement opportunities, and guide decision-making, translating findings into clear insights for internal teams, participants, partners, and funders.
  • Manage grants, contracts, and funder relationships, including initiative budgets, spending tracking, contributing to funder reports, and maintaining clear communication with funders regarding progress, learning, challenges, and outcomes.
  • Support the identification and management of faculty, coaches, consultants, and other partners.
