About The Position

The mission of the Louisiana Department of Health is to protect and promote health and to ensure access to medical, preventive, and rehabilitative services for all residents of the State of Louisiana. This leadership role manages the Healthy Communities Division, guiding a team of six and overseeing more than $1.5 million in programs and federal grant funding. Requirements

• Seven years of experience in developing, managing, or evaluating health or social service programs; or in public health, public relations, social services, health services, health regulation, or administrative services; OR Six years of full-time work experience in any field plus four years of experience in developing, managing, or evaluating health or social service programs; or in public health, public relations, social services, health services, health regulation, or administrative services; OR A bachelor’s degree plus four years of experience in developing, managing, or evaluating health or social service programs; or in public health, public relations, social services, health services, health regulation, or administrative services; OR An advanced degree or a Juris Doctorate plus three years of experience in developing, managing, or evaluating health or social service programs; or in public health, public relations, social services, health services, health regulation, or administrative services.
• Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Responsibilities

• Directs and manages the Healthy Communities Division, including supervision, workload planning, staff development, and overall program operations for six employees.
• Leads operational and strategic planning, performance reporting, grant coordination, and program implementation for healthy community initiatives.
• Manages approximately $1.56 million in federal grant funding, including budget development, contract initiation and execution, fiscal monitoring, and compliance activities.
• Develops and implements policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) change strategies to promote healthier communities through Well-Ahead Louisiana.
• Oversees statewide school health and oral health initiatives, including the School Sealants Program and partnerships with the Louisiana Department of Education to promote healthy school environments and staff training.
• Directs the Louisiana Youth Risk Behavior Survey Project, including coordination and implementation of the biennial statewide survey and related program activities.
• Leads healthy aging and dementia prevention initiatives, including the Well-Ahead Healthy Aging Program and statewide partnerships through the Louisiana Healthy Communities Coalition to improve outcomes for individuals at risk for or living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
