About The Position

Pima County Health Department is seeking a Senior Manager for the Office of Chronic Disease Prevention & Management. This role involves leading the office by coordinating, amplifying, and expanding new and existing prevention and self-management strategies for various chronic diseases. The successful candidate will collaboratively create and deploy a long-term strategic vision for the office, aligning with County and department strategic initiatives. Responsibilities include working with and managing a team of public health professionals to guide policy, systems, and environment strategies aimed at preventing and managing chronic diseases across all communities in Pima County. This position is a member of the Department's Senior Leadership Team, contributing to the vision of making Pima County the healthiest county in the nation. This is a grant-funded position ending November 2027.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in healthcare administration, public health, public or business administration or a related field as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment AND four years of related experience managing public health programs, clinics and/or community-based initiatives INCLUDING two years of direct supervisory experience.
  • Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.
  • OR: Three years of experience with Pima County as a Public Health Program Manager, Public Health Nursing Manager or other related management or supervisor level job classification as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.
  • Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the "Education" and "Work Experience" sections of the application.
  • Valid driver license is required at time of application.
  • Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment.
  • The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicant’s suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures.
  • Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination.
  • Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services’ review and approval of the candidate’s driving record.
  • The County requires pre-employment background checks.
  • Successful candidates will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history, education, and criminal conviction history.
  • This position will require post-job offer proof of immunization(s) or immunization(s) and/or a TB screening.

Responsibilities

  • Provides strategic leadership in the design, development, and execution of public health programs and initiatives.
  • Shapes program strategies based on comprehensive needs assessments, research findings, and public health best practices.
  • Collaborates with Senior Leadership to align programs with organization goals and priorities.
  • Leads cross-functional teams in planning and executing public health programs, ensuring they are on time and within budget.
  • Ensures the effective execution of program activities, including resource allocation and staff coordination.
  • Monitors and oversees program manager performance with expenditures, financial performance, grant compliance, and ensures efficient resource allocation.
  • Identifies and secures grant funding to support program sustainability and expansion.
  • Fosters a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages innovation and teamwork.
  • Collaborates with partners to leverage resources, expertise, and funding opportunities.
  • Engages with the community to gather input, assess needs, and gain support for program initiatives.
