About The Position

The Medical University of South Carolina is seeking an outstanding candidate to assist with developing and managing the MUSC Orangeburg residency programs in the role of Graduate Medical Education (GME) Program Manager. Operating out of MUSC Health – Orangeburg Medical Center, the GME Program Manager will oversee the operations of the Family Medicine & Psychiatry Residency Program and manage the development of new training programs within the facility. The Program Manager will supervise all Residency Program Coordinators at MUSC Orangeburg and will assist with organizing external resident rotators within the programs. This position functions as a liaison between trainees, administration, and program directors and encompasses advanced decision-making authority and reports to the MUSC Charleston Senior Associate Dean for GME and ACGME DIO. This person should have the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities, work well under pressure and have flexibility to manage some projects that will occur outside the scope of normal business hours.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of work experience and education required.
  • At least 3 years work experience in an academic healthcare environment required.
  • Must have working knowledge of computer and software applications including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of personnel.
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • A bachelor's degree and three years relevant program experience.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as local GME Office oversight, including but not limited to working with Hospital leadership and Program Directors to assure appropriate administration, coordination, and supervision of daily operation of ACGME approved residency training programs.
  • Provide assistance in efforts to initiate any new training programs and to enhance the educational experience of the trainees in those programs.
  • Serve as a liaison between the MUSC Orangeburg GME Programs and the MUSC Charleston GME Office and collaborate actively with Administrators and Managers in programmatic initiatives and resource advocacy.
  • Be knowledgeable of and adhere to all University and Hospital policies and procedures and accrediting agency rules with respect to residency training.
  • Provide information and communicate expectations and news to program participants.
  • Communicate and monitor compliance of relevant policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Work with Program Directors to assure compliance with all regulations applicable to the various educational programs with the division.
  • Participate in and plan program special reviews, GMEC, program self-studies, mock site visits, ACGME site visits and CLER site visits.
  • Works closely with the DIO on managing the Formal Academic Remediation program for those residents exhibiting performance and/or academic issues.
  • Supervise, train and guide Program Coordinators to manage daily operations of the training programs, organize and prioritize necessary tasks, initiate changes, and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Provide oversight, guidance and management of high-level departmental projects and curricular programs, including graduation and orientation.
  • Partner with GME, Human Resources, EPIC team, and Program Director for smooth onboarding of new clinical trainees both internal and external rotators.
  • Monitors completion of all on-boarding requirements, including visa documentation and educational activities, as well as graduation and off-boarding procedures.
  • Manages the annual budget process for the Orangeburg GME division, identifies upcoming fiscal year resource needs, growth expectations, and other issues that affect the budget.
  • Implement a monthly budget-to-actual process to identify operating variances and trends.
  • Responsible for procurement activities for the Orangeburg division GME office.
  • Manages the continuous development, coordination and maintenance of the electronic residency management system.
  • Directs the Resident Duty Hour and licensure monitoring process within the residency management system.
  • Provides indirect oversight and professional development of Program Coordinators in different Residency Programs.
