About The Position

The Program Manager, STARS Series is a manager position responsible for creating, managing, and strengthening STARS Series programming that advances PowerPlay NYC’s mission, standards, and youth development goals. The Program Manager will design program experiences, lead site implementation, cultivate relationships with schools and community partners, guide coaches and program staff, and use data to improve program quality and participant outcomes. This position requires strong project management, creative program development, clear communication, cross-functional collaboration, and the ability to move ideas from concept to execution. The Program Manager will help promote the positive image of PowerPlay’s core mission, values, and purpose.

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 3-5 years’ work experience in education, youth development, nonprofit programming, sports-based youth development, or a related field.
  • Intermediate or better proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google suite of products, specifically Microsoft Excel, and general ability to learn new software.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience creating, managing, or improving youth-centered programs, events, curricula, or community partnerships is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Youth Services, 123FormBuilder, Hello Insight and EZReports is desirable but not a requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Create and manage STARS Series plans, activities, and events aligned with PowerPlay NYC’s mission, youth development goals, and partner expectations.
  • Recruit, onboard, support, and evaluate 30+ coaches and volunteers.
  • Strengthen relationships with after-school sites, schools, CBOs, and partners to expand STARS Series impact.
  • Partner with coaches, participants, schools, and CBO staff to ensure consistent, high-quality program delivery.
  • Identify site needs, opportunities, and challenges; recommend solutions and elevate key issues.
  • Document site injuries and promptly notify Program Leadership.
  • Maintain inventory of program equipment and supplies for staff and coaches.
  • Monitor sites to ensure coach readiness, lesson-plan use, safe conditions, and needed supplies.
  • Design and facilitate coach trainings, roundtables, meetings, and boot camps with Program Leadership.
  • Plan and manage STARS Series events and activations, including Girl Power Days, clinics, panels, workshops, Town Halls, mentoring, and partner events.
  • Coordinate waiver completion with schools for each event or activation.
  • Prepare monthly summaries, updates, and impact stories for stakeholders.
  • Update program calendars weekly.
  • Communicate priorities, timelines, risks, and progress while managing assigned projects.
  • Manage systems for collecting, reviewing, and tracking lesson plans, attendance, enrollment forms, surveys, and program documentation across STARS Series sites.
  • Coordinate the collection of program participant enrollment forms from STARS Series sites and ensure timely data entry into Youth Services.
  • Use program data to identify trends, assess program quality, inform improvements, and support reporting to funders, board members, and organizational stakeholders.
  • Collect participant attendance from coach platforms, workshops, and events and ensure timely database entry.
  • Lead the distribution, collection, and tracking of program participant surveys in collaboration with Program Leadership.
  • Maintain accurate site information, including participant contact and demographic data, coach contact information, school and site contacts, and program schedules.
  • Extract and analyze data from program databases to support funding reports, applications, board updates, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Develop and maintain participant data, corporate partner information, and compelling program stories to support social media, website content, and stakeholder communications.
  • Maintain participant photo release records for each program site.
