About The Position

YPIE creates pathways to college and career success, focusing on mid-sized cities with a proven approach grounded in high expectations, personalized opportunities, and community partnerships. YPIE Jersey City currently serves 300 students across 3 public high schools and aims to expand its reach. The Program Manager, Science Research will develop the Jersey City YPIE Science Research Program, teaching students research skills and guiding them in conducting original scientific research for science fair competitions. This role involves curriculum development and program leadership for the Jersey City site, collaborating with the broader YPIE Science Research team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 2+ years of teaching/facilitating student learning (non-traditional classroom experience welcome)
  • Demonstrated experience with Science Research, such as coaching or teaching high school or college science research students, or competitive participation at the high school or college level.
  • Strong writing and public speaking skills
  • Proven organizational and program tracking skills
  • An outcomes-focused orientation
  • Ability to navigate partnerships with diverse stakeholders
  • A car and willingness to travel to program site(s)

Responsibilities

  • Guide 10th-12th grade students through the research process and prepare them for science fairs, including developing research questions, conducting literature reviews, designing experiments, analyzing data, and presenting findings.
  • Provide feedback on student research proposals, posters, papers, and oral presentations, and assign grades based on existing rubrics.
  • Correspond with external partners and internships to support student research projects.
  • Teach a project-based introductory Science Research curriculum to 9th-grade students.
  • Collaborate with the YPIE Science Research Director and teachers across YPIE sites to co-plan instruction, align student support strategies, and build upon the existing curriculum.
  • Develop strong professional relationships with students to provide tutoring in biology, chemistry, and/or physics, and foster self-advocacy.
  • Collaborate with volunteers to assist in providing services to YPIE students.
  • Maintain active, collaborative relationships with key family figures in students' lives to address challenges and reinforce goals.
  • Manage student records and use data systems to identify student challenges.
  • Manage program logistics and communicate with stakeholders about timelines and tasks.
  • Recruit a new cohort of YPIE Scholars annually by collaborating with district partners, identifying target students, and delivering information sessions and presentations.
