About The Position

The Sunshine Academy is seeking a Program Manager to lead their before- and after-school program in Downtown Laurel. This is a hands-on, part-time role where the Program Manager will be the on-site leader for teachers, children, and families. Responsibilities include coaching teachers, running clubs, and assisting with transportation. The goal is to create a program that older kids want to be part of, with dedicated spaces for various activities, a consistent daily structure, and opportunities for homework help, outdoor play, and child-led choices. The role also involves building relationships with families, ensuring program safety and smooth operations, planning events, and contributing to enrollment growth and program development.

Responsibilities

  • Building a program older kids want to be part of
  • Creating a space made for school-age kids with clear areas for homework, reading, building and STEM, art, games, and active play
  • Establishing a steady daily rhythm for kids including snack, homework, choice time, outdoor play, and wind-down before pickup
  • Developing a weekly calendar of clubs, projects, enrichment, and free choice, plus full-day plans for school breaks, early-release days, and summer
  • Providing homework help where teachers sit down and help
  • Ensuring outdoor or active play every day the weather allows
  • Giving children real voice and choice in what they do and how the room is set up, along with chances to lead
  • Ensuring every child is known by name, greeted at the door, and connected to a trusted adult
  • Leading and supporting the team by coaching teachers on positive guidance for older kids
  • Setting clear expectations, giving useful feedback, and recognizing good work
  • Helping train new teachers and supporting scheduling and coverage with the Director of Operations
  • Stepping into a classroom, a hallway, or a van route when it's needed
  • Being the go-to person for families during program hours
  • Building real relationships with parents and guardians and answering their questions directly
  • Keeping families, teachers, and leadership on the same page
  • Building working relationships with Laurel schools on schedules, early-release days, and shared students
  • Keeping supervision, ratios, sign-in and sign-out, and authorized pickup tight every day
  • Keeping attendance and program records accurate
  • Supporting safe, organized transportation and transitions
  • Keeping the space clean, organized, stocked, and welcoming
  • Reporting incidents, safety concerns, and facility issues to the Director of Operations right away
  • Owning Laurel's events and family engagement from start to finish: plans, budgets, staffing, family communication, setup, and debrief
  • Looking for ways to bring families, teachers, and the Laurel community closer together
  • Helping grow enrollment and keep the families we have
  • Bringing new program, event, and partnership ideas to the table
  • Owning and meeting quarterly goals
