About The Position

Southern Energy Management is a certified B Corporation seeking a building performance professional to join their Multifamily and Commercial Energy Services Team. The role involves managing NGBS certification projects from enrollment to final certification, guiding developers and builders through technical requirements, and ensuring buildings perform as designed. This includes energy modeling reviews, field verifications, and technical problem-solving. The company is looking for candidates for either a Program Manager or Assistant Program Manager position, catering to both experienced professionals and emerging talent.

Requirements

  • Technical understanding of building science fundamentals and HVAC systems
  • Strong communication skills for explaining complex technical concepts to diverse audiences
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail—accuracy matters in energy ratings
  • Comfort with Google Workspace and Asana, and ability to learn energy modeling software
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for onsite meetings and field inspections
  • For Program Manager: 3–5 years in field verification, energy rating, or green building certification experience
  • For Program Manager: Strong working knowledge of residential energy modeling (ekotrope, REM/Rate, or similar)
  • For Program Manager: Bachelor's degree in building science, construction, sustainability, architecture, or related field
  • For Program Manager: Demonstrated ability to review energy models and catch discrepancies
  • For Assistant Program Manager: 1–3 years in field testing, green building programs, or energy rating
  • For Assistant Program Manager: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
  • For Assistant Program Manager: Familiarity with energy modeling software helpful (we'll train you)
  • For Program Manager: Credentialed NGBS Verifier in good standing strongly preferred
  • For Program Manager: Experience with Energy Star, Fitwel, Green Globes, HERS Ratings, LEED, and Life Cycle Analysis is also a great asset
  • For Assistant Program Manager: Experience with blower door testing, duct testing, or other diagnostic equipment preferred
  • For Assistant Program Manager: RESNET or other green building credentials a plus

Responsibilities

  • Manage NGBS Multifamily New Construction projects from design through completion
  • Review and validate residential energy models to ensure accuracy and program compliance
  • Conduct onsite meetings and field inspections (up to 20% of your time)
  • Serve as the technical expert for project teams, including developers, architects, builders, and engineers
  • Troubleshoot compliance issues and provide creative solutions to meet certification targets
  • Coordinate with field technicians on inspection scheduling and corrective work
  • Track project milestones, invoices, and provide proactive client updates
  • Collaborate with a supportive team that values technical excellence and continuous learning
