About The Position

BGC Okanagan is hiring casual Program Leaders to support their School Aged Child Care Programs in Vernon, BC. These programs provide safe, engaging spaces for children to play, create, and connect after school. The role involves developing, implementing, and participating in various programs, orienting new families, supervising members, and mentoring Activity Leaders. The Program Leader will also build relationships with children, youth, and families, potentially transport members using Club vans, prepare snacks and meals, and provide behavior management support. Ensuring compliance with agency policies, safety standards, and licensing regulations is crucial.

Requirements

  • Education in childcare and/or experience planning, implementing and evaluating childcare programs.
  • One (1) year recent related experience
  • Completion of a course or a combination of courses of at least 20 hours duration which include child development, guidance, health and safety or nutrition (licensed programs)
  • First Aid Certificate and Food Safe or willingness to obtain
  • Class 5 Driver’s Licence and willingness to obtain Class 4 DL as soon as possible
  • Must be at least 19 years of age as per licensing requirements
  • Successful completion of Agency screening including a Criminal Record Check
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada (Canadian citizens, permanent residents and refugees in Canada with legal status)

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and participate in quality and diverse recreational, social, and/or educational programming.
  • Orients new families and members to the program and club.
  • Provide direct supervision of members, and ensure their health, safety, and wellness.
  • Mentors, guides and leads Activity Leaders within the program and activities.
  • Build relationships with the children, youth, and families within their designated programs.
  • Establishes open communication with parents/caregivers.
  • Use Club vans to pick up members from school and transport to various sites if required.
  • Prepare nutritious snacks and meals for members.
  • Provides group and/or individual behaviour management and support.
  • Ensures Agency Policies and Procedures, Program Operating Standards, WCB standards, Community Care Licensing Regulations, Risk Management requirements and general safety standards are met.
