About The Position

The Immigrant Services Program at Catholic Charities of Tompkins/Tioga provides legal advocacy, direct services, and referrals for refugees and immigrants who reside in Tompkins County. The primary responsibility of this position is to assist Spanish-speaking clients with accessing supportive services provided by the Immigrant Services Program.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Possession of a valid NYS Driver’s license and a driver's record considered acceptable by agency and insurance carrier.
  • Continuous use of a reliable, registered, and insured vehicle.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish at a high proficiency level.
  • Prior experience working with vulnerable individuals preferred.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality client and organization records and files with confidential information.
  • Good interpersonal/verbal/writing skills; welcoming and professional manner.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Adheres to all applicable federal and state laws and regulations including, but not limited to, those governing confidentiality, privacy, program, billing, and documentation standards.
  • All duties must be performed in accordance with CCDR’s corporate compliance and ethics program.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties.
  • Willingness to foster agency, department and program wide cooperation and teamwork through use of positive/constructive communication techniques.
  • Ability to work in the following software programs: Windows, Microsoft Office, and multiple online software platforms as required by funders and partner organizations.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data and to handle problem resolution.
  • Requires work outside of the office.
  • Requires occasional night and weekend work.
  • Demonstrate commitment to Agency Mission Statement.

Responsibilities

  • Pre-screens clients to assess their needs and make appropriate referrals to in-house services or community partners.
  • Provides direct services, case management, and referrals to immigrant clients who have language and/or cultural barriers so they can access community resources.
  • Accompanies Spanish-speaking clients to appointments with DSS, Social Security Administration, the DMV, and medical appointments to bridge language barriers.
  • Provides application assistance for clients who have language barriers or low literacy skills.
  • Assists older clients with accessing local food pantries and farmer’s markets.
  • Other duties as assigned.
