About The Position

The Community Services Division is looking for enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff to provide leadership and supervision in a safe and enjoyable environment for our seasonal recreational dance programs. The Program Instructor 2 position reports to the Supervisor, Community Programs – Recreation and Inclusion. Recreation programs operate from September 2026 to June 2027. This posting is for a current vacancy to begin September 2026. The work model is Front Line.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be at least 16 years of age, with demonstrated leadership qualities.
  • Ability to instruct children and youth in the basics of dance, including dance disciplines such as ballet, jazz and hip-hop, mastery of dance skills, participant confidence, and individualized approach.
  • Program supervisory experience or equivalent experience and be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • 1-2 years experience working with children in a recreation setting.
  • 1-2 years experience coaching/teaching dance, including advanced skills relevant to dance acquired through multiple years of participation and lessons.
  • Demonstrated experience providing excellent customer service.
  • Proof of current Standard First Aid and CPR “C” certification would be an asset at time of interview. Successful candidates must obtain a Standard First Aid and CPR “C” certificate at employee’s expense prior to commencing employment.
  • Certificate in High 5 Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) would be an asset at time of interview. Successful candidates must obtain a PHCD certificate at employee’s expense prior to commencing employment.

Responsibilities

  • Implementing and supervising registered instructional recreational dance programs.
  • Develops and implements a safe and enjoyable dance program for children.
  • Adapting programming where required to meet the needs and abilities of all participants.
  • Providing assistance to participants, including appropriate first aid.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers, parents, and supervisors.
  • Respond to general inquiries and provide excellent customer service.
  • Ensuring participant safety by completing program reports, checking and reporting on any safety hazards.

Benefits

  • Rate of pay: $21.29 per hour (2026 rate).
