About The Position

Teach classroom sessions, conduct subject research, evaluate student progress, develop instructional plans, advise students, review and request new materials, maintain records, prepare a variety of reports as requested and plan, implement, supervise, evaluate and coordinate externship activities. Clinical affiliates and/or off-site facilities may require faculty participating in clinical/off site activities to complete a criminal background check, drug screening, and provide proof of current immunization status, health status, and CPR certification. Faculty are required to present verification of current up to date immunizations, as required by the facility, and current CPR status, as required by the facility, to their supervisor annually.

Requirements

  • Possess a minimum of an associate degree in Medical Assisting or closely related field
  • Be credentialed in good standing in medical assisting, by an organization whose credentialing exam is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI) or under International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
  • Have experience related to the profession of medical assisting
  • Have documented education in instructional methodology
  • Possess knowledge of the MAERB Core Curriculum
  • Two years of community college teaching experience

Responsibilities

  • Teach program material via seated and online classes as required by the schedule.
  • Learn new material to keep up with changing technology.
  • Facilitate regular and substantive interaction via proactive communication with students.
  • Participate in recruiting new students.
  • Ensure classrooms, labs, and lab equipment are in good repair and maintain a safe environment for students and employees.
  • Serve as a mentor to students in your area of expertise.
  • Represent the program within the College and community as the primary point of contact with enthusiasm.
  • Provide supervision to other faculty teaching within the program.
  • Coordinate advisory boards, program updates, offerings, and scheduling of courses.
  • Contact out-of-state students via email or postal mail with information related to program compliance with licensure requirements in their state of residence as required by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Assist the Associate VP of Health Sciences and Public Service and the Dean of Health Sciences in supervising and supporting part-time and full-time faculty.
  • Provide leadership to the Medical Assisting program.
  • Assure that the program and courses are up to date, abreast of technology, and in compliance with state and national accreditation standards.
  • Coordinate curriculum schedules.
  • Evaluate each faculty member on a yearly basis in conjunction with the Associate VP of Health Sciences and Public Service and the Dean of Health Sciences.
  • Maintain daily office hours as part of workload.
  • Maintain effective relationships with all community agencies concerning the activities of both faculty and student functioning in the clinical area.
  • Monitor and evaluate program outcomes annually.
  • Obtain travel, leave requests, departmental textbooks, equipment, supplies, and materials for approval by the Associate VP of Health Sciences and Public Service.
  • Participate in program budget control, professional development of faculty, community service, and advisory committee functions.
  • Participate in recruitment for Health Sciences and Public Service Curriculums.
  • Participate in student and personnel policy matters including grade contesting, student complaints and employee issues.
  • Participate on search committee for full-time faculty members.
  • Participate proactively in the marketing of the Medical Assisting Program.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
  • Prepare reports which review the progress of the Medical Assisting Program and present plans for maintenance of accreditation and approval.
  • Provide leadership in the growth, development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum innovations and improvements.
  • Provide leadership in the retention of students.
  • Recommend part-time faculty to the Associate VP of Health Sciences and Public Service and the Dean of Health Sciences.
  • Supervise the Medical Assisting program and faculty and assist and advise the Associate VP of Health Sciences and Public Service and the Dean of Health Sciences to ensure instructional excellence.
  • Teach classes as assigned each semester, prepare syllabi, evaluate students, and participate in course improvements.
  • Complete all reports for MAERB and CAAHEP to maintain approval status. Oversee all requirements are being maintained on an ongoing basis.
  • Complete all reports for the MAERB and CAAHEP to maintain accreditation status in a timely manner. Oversee that all requirements are being maintained on an ongoing basis.
  • Keep up with all MAERB and CAAHEP updates and requirements, and ensure program stays in compliance.
  • Update SCC website annually with program updates.
  • Hold monthly meetings with faculty according to accreditation standards.
  • Work with admissions to update admission requirements annually and coordinate program admissions and orientation processes.
