About The Position

The City of Mount Pearl is seeking a Program Facilitator for its Inclusive Day Program. This role involves implementing and supporting planned programming for adults of all abilities. The Program Facilitator will facilitate a variety of inclusive and engaging activities that promote creativity, physical activity, and social interaction. Key responsibilities include ensuring participant safety, adapting programs to individual needs, and fostering a positive, welcoming environment that supports independence, confidence, and community connection. Program components may include creative arts, adapted sports, swimming, and life skills activities.

Requirements

  • Considerable experience and knowledge in working with individuals with physical and/or cognitive disabilities.
  • Group Fitness Instructor certification (CSEP, CCAA, canfitpro, or equivalent).
  • Must hold valid First Aid/CPR and AED certification.
  • Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Criminal Record Screening and Vulnerable Sector Check (dated no longer than six months prior to hire) are required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to motivate and support participants in a group setting.
  • Demonstrated patience, empathy, and adaptability when supporting individuals with mobility or balance challenges.

Nice To Haves

  • Educational background in Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, Physiotherapy Assistant, Occupational Therapy Assistant, or a related health or human services field is considered an asset.
  • HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development certification is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in rehabilitation, adapted physical activity, or inclusion-based fitness programming is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate daily activities and support participants in all program components.
  • Ensure the safety, inclusion, and well-being of all participants during program hours.
  • Adapt activities and materials to meet the individual needs and abilities of participants.
  • Assist participants with transitions between activities, including recreation and swimming sessions.
  • Collaborate with the ADI Coordinator and other staff to deliver engaging and meaningful programming.
  • Maintain attendance records, incident reports, and other required documentation.
  • Provide respectful, person-centered support and uphold the City’s values of inclusion, diversity, and accessibility.
  • Assist in the setup and cleanup of activity areas and equipment.
  • Participate in aquatic-based programming, including entering the pool to assist participants as required.
