About The Position

The Roosevelt Beacon Program Director directs one of twenty-seven Beacons in San Francisco’s Beacon Initiative, which reflects the community school model. This position holds the totality of this Beacon’s programs (Expanded Learning and Wellness), staffing, and strategic alignment with the organization’s mission, vision, and values throughout decision-making. The position focuses on two primary areas: management and supervision of staff and program to meet student needs, and school administrator support. This position has a clear picture of who we are so as to control quality and content, constantly bringing the focus back to being both student-centered and staff-sustainable. In particular, this position balances responsiveness and organizational values with various stakeholders and always considers the needs of students identifying as BIPOC, ELL, and/or as having special needs. In addition to administering the program, this position takes part in strategic planning for the organization as a whole.

Requirements

  • Excellent communicator: able to think quickly and speak well in front of audiences of diverse stakeholders, such as the student body, parents, all-faculty meetings, administrator, fellow Beacon directors, and our internal Leadership Team; a responsive email style that acknowledges the seriousness and permanence of the written word in a youth-driven world
  • Values-based: The ability to assess the risk of programs and new initiatives regarding student need, org values, and staff sustainability/safety.
  • Data-driven: Able to comfortably navigate basic Excel and general reporting databases; sees the importance of using data to drive continuous improvement and measure progress.
  • A demonstrated commitment to working with diverse populations, particularly centering Black, Latinx, and Indigenous student perspectives; LGBTQQ+ individuals; and those identifying as neurodivergent
  • 3-5 years of experience with schools, school districts, and/or the school system as a whole; non-profit experience is a plus
  • Multiple years of experience managing multiple direct reports. However, for those who have less management experience, a developed understanding of personal management style, communication expectations, and your accountability level preference for those you are managing may suffice.
  • Some college experience, but a degree is not required.
  • Must meet SFUSD Instructional Aide Requirement through one of the following: An Associate’s degree or higher, OR Official transcripts reflecting 48 college units and a high school diploma/equivalent, OR Completion of CBEST and a high school diploma/equivalent.
  • Critical Consciousness: Able to weave equity and cultural relevance into all aspects of planned activities. Able to plan and facilitate programming intentionally. Understanding of marginalized communities. Strong advocate for youth voice and leadership.
  • DOJ Live Scan Fingerprinting: All employees who have contact with youth under the age of 18 must be fingerprinted under procedures established by the DOJ. We cannot employ any individual who has been convicted of a serious or violent felony, as defined by the California Penal Code. The organization also receives updated information from the DOJ during employment. Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records on a case by case basis.
  • TB Test: Every employee who has regular contact with youth is required to have a current tuberculin skin test or an X-ray examination of the lungs (with a negative result) prior to reporting for duty.
  • Employment Authorization: Employees must be able to prove that they are authorized to work in the United States using any of the documentation allowed according to current I-9 processes.

Responsibilities

  • Develops a vision for the program (aligned to organizational mission and values and participant needs), understands the current state of the program, and creates a path forward.
  • Serves as the gatekeeper for Creating new programs, sunsetting outdated ones, and tabling requests with a strategic plan in mind.
  • Serves as the key collaborator on projects between the organization and Beacon, including communication with the Principal and Counseling Department.
  • Supports school administrators and site partners on identifying and meeting needs of policies, projects, and school stakeholders.
  • Assists Program Manager to coordinate the Parent Engagement Team by supporting and assisting with meetings, scheduling workshops, and attending family nights.
  • Works with Program Directors on implementing the organization’s strategic planning efforts for the program.
  • Provides employment life cycle (hires, trains, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines) for Program Managers and various direct reports.
  • Sets a vision for training for managers and staff, grounded in best practices.
  • Coaches Program Managers in effective supervision of direct service staff.
  • Meets with supervisees on a weekly basis to check in on progress, assist with problem-solving and planning, and provide input on performance & coaching.
  • Tightly aligns program goals and funding in the budget creation process annually with Chief Financial Officer
  • Works with the Executive Director and Leadership Team to create the vision for the program budgets and the greater organization wide budget.
  • Understands and adheres to grant funding guidelines.
  • Closely collaborates and communicates with Beacon Program Managers and the CFO on key issues such as spending timelines, over-budgeted costs, and reassignment of funds.
  • Represents The Richmond Neighborhood Center’s Beacon in various venues relevant to the Beacon program including but not limited to meetings with the Board of Supervisor officials, ExCEL, DCYF, other SFUSD networks, as identified by Executive Director.
  • Makes outreach to potential community partners with support of the Executive Director.
  • Represents the mission and vision of the entire Richmond Neighborhood Center (not just Roosevelt’s programs) at city-wide meetings.
  • Participates in monthly strategic Leadership Team meetings.
  • Participates in organization events and fundraisers.
  • Serves as a positive, responsive, and solution-oriented leader at Roosevelt Middle School.
  • Attends and participates in regular staff and supervision meetings as needed.
  • Produces all check reimbursements and charge vouchers accurately, legibly and timely.

Benefits

  • Salary Range: $123,600.00 - $129,780.00 Salary/year
  • Annual Salary: $84, 716 - $88,952
