About The Position

Under administrative direction, the Program Director is responsible for the management of two TRIO programs; Upward Bound and Talent Search, serving Glendale Union High School District. This includes planning, budgeting, training, supervising, and providing general leadership and vision to TRIO staff. The position is IN-PERSON and work location is primarily at the West campus; however, incumbent may be required to travel to off-campus events, assigned schools and other ASU campuses to perform work driving their own vehicle. Work schedule will be flexible, depending on when programs are offered, to include nights and Saturdays as required. On days when programs are not offered, work schedule will be Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. During summer, there is a one-week residential program, incumbent may be required to reside on campus during this time.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree and nine (9) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field including five (5) years managerial experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
Demonstrated knowledge of post-secondary admission process and financial aid, such as FAFSA and scholarships
Demonstrated knowledge of computer skills including use of MS Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Bookings), G Suite (e.g., Google Drive, Gmail, Hangouts, etc.), Canva, and ASU computer systems (e.g., Peoplesoft, Salesforce, Canvas, Zoom, Slack, etc.)
Experience in planning, scheduling, and supervising the work of others
Professionally represent department/program
Sit or stand for prolonged periods of time
Work collaboratively across various departments within the University
Use critical thinking to make decisions and/or analyze data
Develop budgets and monitor expenditures
Supervise students and/or staff
Use computers effectively; including inputting, reviewing and retrieving information, extended periods of viewing screen and using mouse and keyboard
Research, develop, implement and assess programs
Travel/walk throughout campus for meetings or events, regardless of the weather
Work collaboratively to achieve objectives
Lift up to 20 lbs.

Nice To Haves

Evidence of a master’s degree in education, student services, or a directly related program preferred.
Doctorate preferred or in progress
Experience with TRIO and/or similar college preparatory programs
Experience with youth from middle/junior high to high school (i.e., youth at least 11 years of age and older); grades 8th to 12th
Experience with populations particularly those from low-income family backgrounds and first-generation to attend post-secondary institutions
Experience with grant writing, preferably federal grants

Responsibilities

Work as part of a team to support Access ASU programs and goals; develop strategic action plans in accordance with Access ASU Program objectives
Administers two West based federally funded TRIO grant programs under the legislation and regulations set forth by the Department of Education.
Develops and administers the TRIO Program in collaboration with TRIO Programs Leadership and Educational Outreach and Student Services.
Develop and maintain professional relationships with assigned district and school partners to achieve program goals.
Provide goal setting and program evaluation and supports data collection for appropriate reports to the designated supervisor.
Leverage institutional resources and efforts to enhance the TRIO student experience.
Ensures effective and efficient use of personnel and resources in the administration of program activities.
Manages, supervises, and provides orientation and development of program staff.
Collaborates in the development and administration of the program budget.
Oversee the design and development of individually tailored learning modules prepared by the program specialists.
Collaborates with TRIO Programs staff to develop information systems for tracking and maintaining program procedures.
Develops the criteria for and coordinates the student selection process.
Works closely with grant writer and/or principal investigator for future TRIO grant funding.
Participate in National and Regional TRIO leadership opportunities.
Corresponds with local and national TRIO programs, colleges, and other universities to support collective efforts for further services to students.
Participates in outreach opportunities to educate community members about TRIO Programs.
Attends professional development opportunities to enhance program success.
Serves on University wide committees that enhance the TRIO student experience.
Position requires work on weekends and evenings.
Primary work location is on the ASU West campus, however work for this position may occur at high schools within the Glendale Union High School District.
