About The Position

Under general supervision, serve as program director and perform duties which include curriculum design and development; instruction, recruitment, and advisement of students; budgeting; and management of adjunct faculty. The program director will be responsible for teaching a minimum of 15 credit hours of day or evening instructional courses per quarter (not including OBI or internships). Duties also include participation in college committees and participation in professional enhancement. Evaluates students' progress in attaining goals and objectives. Requests and maintains supplies and equipment and prepares budget requests. Maintains program certification requirements, as appropriate. Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports. Attends staff development training, workshops, seminars, and conferences. Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the training area. Meets with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs and other issues. Assists with recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts.

Requirements

  • Doctorate or Master's degree in discipline or related field (counseling, mental health, etc.) OR Master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in discipline or related field (counseling, mental health, etc.)
  • Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the course assigned.

  • Proficient in written and oral communication.
  • Demonstrated occupational competency.
  • Must be computer literate with the ability to use common software programs.
  • Some experience with online instruction a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Organizes and administers the educational program per the goals and objectives of the program and/or college.
  • Prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction for credited courses.
  • Develops program and course outlines, goals, and objectives.
  • Provide for quality instructional services.
  • Maintain and develop continuous quality assessment and improvement strategies.
  • Coordinate departmental activities.
  • Participate in college and community activities.
  • Evaluates students' progress in attaining goals and objectives.
  • Requests and maintains supplies and equipment and prepares required budget requests.
  • Maintains program certification requirements, as appropriate.
  • Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports.
  • Maintains knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending staff development training, workshops, seminars, and conferences and by reading professional literature in the related vocational field.
  • Meets with students, staff members, and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs and other issues impacting the progress of the students.
  • Displays a high level of effort and commitment to performing work; operates effectively within the organizational structure; demonstrates trustworthiness and responsible behavior.
  • Assists with recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in the fulfillment of the needs, philosophy, and purpose of Gwinnett Technical College.
