About The Position

Discovery Schools MO is a state approved contractual agency providing, in addition to rigorous academics, high quality social, emotional, and behavioral supports for students K-12. We are seeking a highly skilled, dedicated and compassionate Lead Teacher/Program Director to foster an inspiring learning environment and supportive environment for students to learn and grow socially and academically in our program in Farmington, Missouri. Competitive pay based on experience and education. The successful candidate should be passionate about education, possess a deep level of knowledge about student behavior and strategies to support challenging behaviors and demonstrate a commitment to meeting the diverse needs of our students. Experience working with students with challenging behaviors and/or autism is required.

Requirements

  • Experience working with students with challenging behaviors and/or autism is required.
  • A bachelor’s degree in special education or relevant field preferred
  • Possession of Mild/Moderate Special Education certification or ability to apply for provisional/Temporary Authorization Certificate (assistance provided)
  • Administrator certificate preferred
  • Proven experience with students with challenging behaviors
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and leadership abilities
  • Ability to build relationships with students, parents, and colleagues

Responsibilities

  • Assist staff to develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that align with curriculum guidelines
  • Model for other staff how to provide academic and behavior instruction focused on student needs
  • Design program to support each students' unique needs
  • Assess and record students’ progress, provide grades and constructive feedback
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students
  • Collaborate with other teachers, parents and stakeholders and participate in regular meetings
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests
  • Prepare students for standardized tests required by the state
  • Implement school policies and safety regulations
  • Assist with students in crisis through implementing Safe Crisis Management strategies and interventions
  • Participate in professional development activities
