The Program Counselor Supervisor manages, coordinates, and leads day-to-day programming in a juvenile detention facility for youth awaiting court proceedings or serving a sentence after a felony or misdemeanor conviction. Programming includes indoor and outdoor activities, workshops, youth- and family-focused events, daily living activities, and schedules. The supervisor leads a unit of program staff and participates in staff orientation, in-service training, coaching, and supervision to support professional development. The role works with ACS-contracted vendors, partner program staff, volunteers, and facility operations staff to develop and deliver enrichment, prosocial, vocational, internship, and after-school programming that supports youth engagement and reduces idleness. It also ensures that program schedules, statistical reports, data entries, recurring reports, and programming logs are completed, distributed, maintained, and used for planning and evaluation. The supervisor maintains collaborative relationships with the Department of Education, ACS-contracted behavioral and mental health staff, and DYFJ facility staff to support youth behavior management. The role represents the programming unit in detention and milieu-based meetings and conferences concerning care and behavior plans and discharge recommendations. In support of the Director of Programs, the supervisor also collects and tracks data, identifies trends, reviews incidents and policies, facilitates tours for external guests, and helps address coverage and facility coordination issues. The candidate must be willing to travel among ACS secure detention facilities and attend meetings and events, including evenings and weekends.
