About The Position

This position is primarily responsible for serving as a mentor coach, committed to supporting and guiding youth hired through the My CHI My Future Program with the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services. The role involves providing direct service to 15 youth, ages 16-24, over a pre-scheduled span of 26 weeks. Additionally, the position is responsible for administrative duties that align with this youth employment and special events planning program.

Requirements

  • High School Degree Required
  • Experience working with youth of diverse backgrounds required.
  • Must be Bilingual
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity is required.
  • Ability to communicate and cooperate with diverse families, various professionals, and community groups.
  • Must have a vehicle with a valid driver’s license and auto insurance.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude working in a high-intensity environment.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of service providers, community events, or the organization.
  • Exercises discretion and independent judgment in executing tasks.
  • Must demonstrate ability to handle emergency and crisis situations.
  • Must be able to take initiative.
  • Ability to work varying hours Monday - Friday, Schedule may include some evenings and weekends.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates in Human Services, Education, Psychology, Social Work or a related field preferred
  • One to three years of related experiences or a combination of training, education, and experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of youth development required

Responsibilities

  • Make a 500-hour per year commitment adhering to funder-determined program schedule.
  • Recruit and hire 15 youth from the Brighton Park community.
  • Process payroll for the 15 youth.
  • Responsible for recruitment and retention of program participants.
  • Ensure that all training, curricula, evaluation, and other requirements are met.
  • Guide youth in the development and implementation of 3 youth & community kickback events and 6 Teen and Young Adult events.
  • Serve as a liaison to community vendors participating in youth-led events, ensuring payment.
  • Coordinate the permitting process as needed for outdoor “activations”.
  • Develop and maintain a positive relationship with youth and partner site leads.
  • Communicate effectively and administer program policies and procedures to youth.
  • Track and follow up with youth on the completion of mandatory forms.
  • Track, manage, and ensure the accuracy of youth timesheets for payroll approval.
  • Enter all youth’s attendance/timesheets into the CitySpan system.
  • Ensure youth are connected to the MCMF platform.
  • Ensure all curricula are completed by the youth.
  • Encourage youth to participate in speaker series and All Teen Gatherings.
  • Attend mandatory trainings implemented by SGA and funder.
  • Follow up with youth who have inconsistent attendance.
  • Implement other services requested by SGA or funder.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
