About The Position

The Program Coordinator is a frontline operational manager responsible for delivering District Works' service standards throughout the Union Square Alliance (USqA) district. Reporting to the Program Director, this position supervises Place Managers, coordinates daily district operations, monitors service quality, and ensures exceptional hospitality, public space stewardship, and operational excellence. The Program Coordinator serves as the link between leadership and community teams by communicating priorities, coaching employees, resolving operational challenges, and maintaining accountability for safety, service quality, and client satisfaction. Working collaboratively with District Works leadership, internal departments, USqA representatives, merchants, property owners, city agencies, and community partners, the Program Coordinator fosters a culture of Radical Hospitality, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in operations, hospitality, public service, maintenance, urban place management, or a related field.
  • Two (2) years of supervisory or team leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate field operations, staff schedules, and service delivery.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace and workforce management systems such as Paylocity or comparable software.
  • Valid California Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be at least 25 years of age and eligible to operate District Works commercial fleet vehicles in accordance with the Company's commercial fleet insurance requirements.
  • Ability to operate company vehicles safely.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and manage competing priorities.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work outdoors in varying weather conditions, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Availability to work flexible schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Hospitality, Organizational Leadership, Urban Planning, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a Business Improvement District (BID), Community Benefit District (CBD), hospitality organization, municipal agency, or public-private partnership.
  • Experience supervising customer-facing teams in high-traffic public environments.
  • Knowledge of urban place management, hospitality, maintenance, beautification, or ambassador programs.
  • Familiarity with San Francisco neighborhoods and public agencies.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and another language commonly spoken in the Bay Area.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily district operations throughout the USqA service area.
  • Coordinate staff deployment, schedules, routes, and operational coverage.
  • Ensure personnel, vehicles, equipment, uniforms, radios, and supplies are operationally ready.
  • Conduct district inspections to verify service quality, productivity, and compliance with District Works and USqA standards.
  • Provide real-time coaching, direction, and operational support.
  • Respond promptly to operational issues, service requests, and changing district conditions.
  • Support district events, seasonal activations, and special projects.
  • Escalate significant operational, safety, staffing, or client concerns to the Program Director.
  • Lead, coach, and develop assigned Place Managers.
  • Communicate daily priorities, assignments, and performance expectations.
  • Conduct shift briefings, safety meetings, and ongoing training.
  • Support onboarding, program training, and employee development.
  • Monitor attendance, punctuality, appearance, and performance.
  • Review timecards and maintain accurate personnel documentation.
  • Recognize achievements and address performance concerns in partnership with program leadership and the People Team.
  • Model District Works' values of Radical Hospitality, accountability, teamwork, and respect.
  • Build productive relationships with merchants, property owners, visitors, community organizations, city agencies, and USqA representatives.
  • Respond professionally to service requests and operational concerns.
  • Represent District Works with professionalism, hospitality, and sound judgment.
  • Support community meetings, district initiatives, and client engagement activities.
  • Communicate district observations and emerging issues to program leadership.
  • Promote a welcoming, clean, and vibrant experience throughout the district.
  • Prepare schedules, deployment plans, reports, incident documentation, and operational updates.
  • Maintain accurate records related to staffing, attendance, payroll, equipment, vehicles, and service delivery.
  • Monitor key performance indicators and prepare reports supporting client communication, billing, and operational planning.
  • Collaborate with Recruitment, People Operations, Payroll, Finance, and other internal departments.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and support special projects as assigned.
  • Communicate staffing needs, scheduling concerns, equipment issues, and operational risks promptly.
  • Promote a culture of safety, accountability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct routine safety meetings and reinforce safe work practices.
  • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment, vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Report and document incidents, injuries, hazards, and corrective actions.
  • Support compliance with OSHA requirements, California labor laws, company policies, and contractual standards.
  • Maintain required records accurately and confidentially.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, communication, and service delivery.
  • Support implementation of Standard Operating Procedures, technology, and quality-control initiatives.
  • Use operational data and employee feedback to improve program performance.
  • Share best practices across District Works programs.
  • Participate in professional development and contribute to a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
