About The Position

Under the direction of Resident Services, the program coordinator is responsible for the implementation, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of youth at the Booker Center located within the Allegheny County Housing Authority's Sheldon Park community. This grant-funded position serves as a liaison between ACHA, resident families, service providers, community partners, and educational organizations to ensure the delivery of educational enrichment, recreational programming, and supportive services for youth and families. The Program Coordinator will oversee daily program operations, supervise program staff and volunteers, maintain compliance with grant requirements, maintain relationships with outside providers, and create a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate environment that supports the educational, social, emotional, and personal growth of participating youth.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Education, Social Work, Human Services, Child Development, Recreation, Youth Development, or a related field; Bachelor's degree preferred OR a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in youth programming, education, community services, recreation, or a related field.
  • Proficient in various programs to include, but not limited to: Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the provision of community social services and trauma-informed care.
  • Must have and maintain a valid PA driver’s license and use of a personal vehicle.
  • Must possess or obtain mandated reporter certification along with CPR/First Aid.
  • Must complete onboarding training modules prior to orientation period ending.
  • Ability to work effectively with youth, and families from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of development principles and youth programming best practices.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to supervise staff, volunteers, and collaborate with contracted service providers.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Experience developing community partnerships and collaborative initiatives.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe software, databases, and electronic recordkeeping systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and oversee daily operations of youth at the Booker Center.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor structured educational, recreational, cultural, and enrichment activities for youth.
  • Ensure a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for all participants.
  • Assist with participant enrollment, attendance tracking, and family engagement activities.
  • Develop age-appropriate programming that promotes academic achievement, social development, leadership skills, and healthy lifestyles.
  • Coordinate after-school, summer, school-break, and special event programming.
  • Maintain program schedules, calendars, and facility usage plans.
  • Supervise program assistants and volunteers.
  • Provide orientation, training, scheduling, and ongoing support to program staff and volunteers.
  • Monitor staff performance and ensure compliance with ACHA policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate regular staff meetings and program planning sessions.
  • Act as a liaison between ACHA, resident families, youth participants, schools, and internal/external community organizations.
  • Assist families in accessing community resources and reduce barriers as needed.
  • Collect, maintain, and analyze program data, attendance records, outcomes, and participant information.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual reports documenting program outcomes, accomplishments, challenges, and performance measures.
  • Assist with grant reporting, payment requests, program evaluations, and other required documentation.
  • Coordinate tutoring, mentoring, workforce readiness, life skills, and educational enrichment activities.
  • Establish partnerships with local schools and educational organizations to support academic achievement.
  • Promote positive youth development principles and encourage leadership opportunities for participants.
  • Coordinate special events, workshops, field trips, and family engagement activities.
  • Maintain accurate participant files, attendance records, incident reports, and program documentation.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, community events, and stakeholder meetings as required.
  • Assist with opening, closing, and securing the Booker Center facility when necessary.
