About The Position

The Office of Regional and International Community Engagement (ORICE) in the Faculty of Arts at the University of British Columbia (UBC) was established in 2016 to provide ongoing support in engaging regional and international stakeholders in addressing complex community issues. As a unit within the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs, ORICE collaborates with faculties and departments across UBC to design curricular and co-curricular activities focused on community engagement. These activities include international or regional service-learning courses, community-based research collaborations, short courses on global issues, and bringing partners into the classroom using technology. ORICE also hosts the Gender+ in Research Collective and the Human Rights Collective, promoting experiential learning and research across faculties. Through these efforts, ORICE fosters collaborative and transformative learning experiences for faculty, community partners, and students.

The School of Public Policy and Global Affairs is a professional, degree-granting, interdisciplinary school focused on public policy and global issues. SPPGA’s mission is to integrate world-class scholarship, teaching, research, and policy engagement to contribute toward positive change.

The Program Coordinator for ORICE (Office of Regional and International Community Engagement) supports community-based learning partnerships, maintains relationships with faculty members and community partners, and assists students in regional or international placements. They integrate partner content into courses and programs using innovative technologies. The role involves planning, advising students, collaborating with organizations, and implementing programs. The Coordinator also oversees communication strategies, promoting ORICE programs through social media and storytelling. Incumbent will need to work flexible hours (including evenings), attend events and meetings as necessary. Regional/international travel may be required.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
• Minimum of one to two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Experience as a participant or staff within a Regional/ International Service Learning or Community Engaged Learning or Research program.

• Understanding of, and experience with developing campaigns and content, social media platforms and related tools, including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
• Experience working with WordPress or other website Content Management Systems and email marketing systems (e.g. Envoke, Mailchimp).
• Able to communicate effectively with staff at all levels, work independently, work to tight deadlines and manage competing priorities.

Responsibilities

• Oversees, coordinates and implements the ORICE co-curricular and curricular programs.
• Oversees, coordinates and implements recruitment campaigns for ORICE programs.
• Leads planning, coordination, implementation and evaluation of student selection processes for ORICE experiential programs working with ORICE staff, community partners, faculty and students.
• Supports the implementation of experiential education pedagogy into the curriculum of ORICE programs and courses.
• Collaborates on budget development, oversees expense management, and ensure adherence to the budgets of multiple programs.
• Develops and oversees the coordination of planning, execution, and communication components of ORICE experiential, integrated and immersive learning events and programming, for all stakeholders.
• Advises students through all stages of ORICE programs including referrals to campus resources as needed.
• Co-designs and facilitates ORICE student program components according to best practices for regional and international immersive student programming, utilizing multiple modalities.
• Training of program support staff, and international contracted staff in program locations on program administration tasks and expectations when applicable.
• Coordination of program staff, platforms and documentation, including but not limited to: Hires, onboards and provides ongoing supervision of student staff: defining student priorities and schedules in consultation with other ORICE full-time staff and providing day-to-day supervision and coaching of all student staff in the shared office space.
• Accountable for all internal documents, databases, project management materials and protocols for all ORICE programs.
• Develops innovative procedures and practices with the goal of improving program effectiveness.
• Manages the coordination and utilization of all internal platforms, planning and communication tools.
• Develops evaluation of ORICE programs and services; analyzes statistical information, documents and reports results.
• Coordinates the planning, promotion, communications and execution of in-person and virtual events for all ORICE public engagement including events from the Collective for Gender+ in Research and the Human Rights Collectives, as well as collaborations with other UBC departments and initiatives.
• Develops event-specific budgets based on allocated funding, coordination of decisions and activities with event teams to ensure budget adherence and post-event financial reconciliation and documentation.
• Oversees all processes relating to awards from various funding sources for ORICE students including ensuring the timely and accurate distribution of funds, and solving complex issues.
• Participates in program grant writing and fundraising activities.
• Drafts, coordinates and implements the ORICE communications plan and strategy, with the goal of building and shaping the ORICE brand and identity through the identification of communication opportunities.
• Oversees the creation of marketing content related to ORICE programs, including all Collectives, across text, photo and video-based platforms.
• Performs other responsibilities as required.
