About The Position

Coach Across America is a national service organization founded in 2010, dedicated to leveraging the transformative power of coaches to positively impact vulnerable youth and their communities through sports. They collaborate with local nonprofits, schools, and sports organizations to train and support AmeriCorps coaches for a one-year service term in underserved areas. The role involves serving at the Midtown Youth Academy in Washington, DC, a non-profit organization focused on promoting education and wellness through boxing. The Program Coordinator will act as a coach-mentor, directly engaging with youth, and will support program coordination with a specific focus on increasing girls' participation. The position includes sports-based youth development training aimed at enhancing youth mental and physical well-being, and membership in a supportive AmeriCorps cohort.

Requirements

  • U.S. citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident
  • 18 years of age or older (17 with written parental/guardian consent)
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent, or currently working toward one
  • Must be able to support partner events on Friday or throughout the week if scheduled in advance.
  • Must be able to participate in athletic programs with youth.
  • Productive and positive interpersonal relationship capabilities and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to develop collaborative solutions positively and efficiently.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to listen well, solve problems, and collaborate effectively.
  • Computer skills. Regular use of MS Office Suite.
  • Interest in and commitment to wellness and education for youth.
  • Ability to connect well with diverse individuals and balance a variety of needs.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate youth intake, including assisting with the development and implementation of the enrollment process, developing and distributing enrollment materials, and supporting families with enrollment steps.
  • Coordinate athletic programming, including boxing and running, as well as breathing and wellness activities.
  • Serve as a coach-mentor for youth in athletic programs and collaborate with volunteers delivering programming.
  • Assist in establishing athletic and wellness-based partnerships and liaise with partners.
  • Assist with the development, management, and implementation of an effective education program for youth, including after-school tutoring curriculum aligned with the organization's TEAM concept, test preparation/tutoring, entrepreneurship, arts and technology, and mentorship.
  • Assist in establishing academic-based partnerships and liaise with partners.
  • Assist with the development and coordination of a volunteer database, ensuring adequate volunteers for each program and adherence to established curriculums and policies.
  • Assist with communication and promotion of programs, events, and partnerships to attract volunteer interest.
  • Complete a minimum of 900 hours of service and training.
  • Attend CAA Coach Orientation at the start of the service term.
  • Submit accurate bi-weekly timesheets, approved by the Host Site Supervisor.
  • Participate in AmeriCorps National Days of Service and community events.
  • Attend all CAA trainings, communities of learning, and special initiatives.
  • Complete all data collection activities as directed by the CAA Program Director, including youth rosters, attendance records, and participant surveys.
