About The Position

The MQM Program Coordinator provides significant support to the Master of Quantitative Management: Business Analytics (MQM:BA) program while also engaging with the additional two one-year programs: Master of Management Studies (MMS) and Master in Business, Climate, and Sustainability (MBCS). This role is responsible for supporting the planning and coordination of MQM:BA program-led and student-led events. In addition, the Program Coordinator will serve as a point of contact for students via program-wide communication and periodic individual student support. Work will be both individual and team-based. This position requires evening and weekend availability as needed.

Requirements

  • Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program.
  • Work requires one year of experience in program administration or involving academic, instructional or counseling activities to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The ideal candidate will be able to fluidly transition between working professionally with graduate students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to work with, relate to, and empathize with students.
  • Skills using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions to problems.
  • Skills evaluating program performance, summarizing findings, communicating results, and forming an action plan.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office with an emphasis on Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Prior experience utilizing survey tools such as Qualtrics.

Responsibilities

  • Help plan, coordinate, and assist with social, co-curricular, and academic programming for students. This includes but is not limited to: orientation, graduation, Winterfest (Fuqua-wide event), Duke Chapel climbs, beginning of term events, end of term events, social events (e.g. BINGO, trivia), technical workshops, data competitions, and guest speakers. Planning logistics includes, but is not limited to: room reservations, catering, placing orders for event supplies, including promotional materials, room setup, distributing materials, creating attendance sheets and name tags, generating parking passes, and meeting special guests.
  • Provide event overview in a timely manner. Communicate with staff to outline roles and responsibilities.
  • Monitor and evaluate the event planning process for large and small events. Recommend and implement modifications as needed to enhance student experience.
  • Assist the student leadership association with event planning. This includes but is not limited to: idea generation, knowledge of Fuqua and Duke policies regarding event planning, suggesting catering/food service, connecting students with appropriate internal and external vendors, and ordering materials.
  • Supervise students when needed during student-led events.
  • Periodic coaching of students in areas such as time management, class preparation, team dynamics, navigating friendships, transition to Durham, transportation, travel, etc.
  • Refer students to relevant staff members for deeper/more critical/time-sensitive concerns is essential.
  • Help collect and maintain resources for student engagement and support, including but not limited to: academic, student life, team building, and health and wellness.
  • Support staff, as needed, to help students with testing accommodations.
  • Support staff, as needed, to help students return from a leave of absence.
  • Monitor and respond to incoming student questions. Questions are variable and can include, but are not limited to: class schedules, student health insurance, visas, housing, safety, shopping, and dining.
  • Compile and distribute weekly newsletters for students during the academic year. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: adding/updating events on the student calendar, promotion of Fuqua and Duke-wide resources and opportunities, notifications of class/room changes, and providing resources for cultural, spiritual, and identity centers. Responsible for accuracy in all printed and electronic materials and correspondence.
  • Notify students of academic teams and team changes.
  • Support the review of student team charters and provide feedback to teams.
  • Create surveys to collect academic and non-academic information. Examples include the following and are not limited to: t-shirt sizes, class elective sign-ups, class speaker nominations, teaching awards, etc. Review, compile, clean up, and disseminate results to Fuqua staff.
  • Collaborate with other staff in the admissions, marketing, alumni relations, and career services departments as it relates to support, knowledge sharing, and collaboration for student needs and/or issues.
  • Perform other related duties as relevant to the work described above.
