This position provides customer-friendly, courteous, and informative services to the public and IRP customers. It assists with customer-facing IRP customers, completing the correct documents needed for opening new accounts and renewals. The role also assists IRP customers with supplements, updating insurance, turning in license plates, collecting forms and payments for 2290’s (Federal Heavy Vehicle Use Tax), confirming payments, collecting payments for yearly renewals, For Hires and Supplements. Additionally, it updates name changes for individuals and business entities and transfers plates and/or title work. The position reviews City, State, and Federal documents, explains mandatory requirements for proof of residency, and reviews fraudulent or altered materials. It contacts utility companies to verify proof of residency and reviews lease agreements and insurance certificates to ensure compliance with IRP international requirements. The role responds to telephone and email inquiries from customers, insurance companies, the public, and motor carrier authorities, and processes incoming mail from customers, responding to renewal packets and submitted payments. The position reviews websites of the North Carolina Secretary of State and Federal Motor Safety Administration, cross-referencing USDOT and Motor Carrier numbers. It responds to customer inquiries regarding Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) and International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA), providing necessary contact information. The role maintains a detailed and accurate accounting of all checks, money orders, and credit/debit card transactions, and balances and reconciles a cash drawer at the end of each workday. All title work and other transactions are conducted pursuant to the Motor Vehicle General Statutes, DMV rules and regulations, and the Privacy Protection Act. The position receives and reviews in-state and out-of-state financial packages used by IRP customers to purchase/lease motor vehicles. To perform these tasks, the position requires technical and administrative skills, and extensive knowledge of North Carolina General Statutes, policies, procedures, and regulations governing the issuance of North Carolina titles and other credentials. The program area includes working knowledge of the International Registration Plan Unit, experience with vehicle title and registrations, DMV customer service experience, and/or experience applying or explaining Motor Vehicle General Statutes and DMV rules and regulations.
