About The Position

The Sustainability Coordinator will lead two major programmatic initiatives: Circularity programs and the Green Labs program. These established programs build a culture of environmental sustainability through material reuse and resource conservation while serving internal and external communities. The Sustainability Coordinator advances the WashU Green Labs Program, which provides resources and incentives to encourage and support lab staff in adopting a range of more sustainable practices. This position has opportunities for supervising volunteers and student interns.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Circularity Initiatives, including some strategic development and much of the hands-on implementation of the programs.
  • Manage day-to-day operations of campus surplus warehouse and sale site (Circularity Center).
  • Coordinate WashU Reuse platform and manage inventory.
  • Plan and lead the annual Share Our Stuff move out collection program.
  • Coordinate novel surplus reuse and donation as opportunities arise.
  • Work with partners within facilities and space relocation to improve processes for reuse and donation.
  • Engage with staff and student leaders to train peer educators for waste sorting and Circularity.
  • Coordinate waste and water stations for university events.
  • Collaborate with Green Labs Program Lead to execute Green Labs initiatives, including: Ongoing planning and implementation of outreach and education initiatives, Managing Green Labs certification process and recognition experience, Assisting with programmatic evaluation and strategic planning.
  • Plan and implement annual Lab Supply Swaps.
  • Coordinate with Environmental Health and Safety to ensure all lab supply swap events meet safety standards.
  • Plan, promote, and lead logistics for lab supply swaps.
  • Work with the Communications Specialist and campus partners to plan and coordinate communications for circularity initiatives and Green Labs, including: Newsletter stories, social media, and website, Event marketing materials, Year-end reports, and others.
  • Attend tabling events.
  • Coordinate presentations to further promote programs and event.
  • Track data for all programs in current and improved systems; generate reports and narratives to communicate impact to partners.
  • Provide planning and execution support for special events, conferences, and programs hosted by Operations and Facilities Management Department (OFMD), Office of Sustainability, and campus partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
