About The Position

The successful candidates are responsible for assisting in the implementation and facilitation of the in-person summer camp program. The Program Coordinator will support the Education team in the facilitation of camp programming and other camp-related activities. Tropicana Community Services (TCS) has been empowering youth, newcomers, seniors, and families throughout the Greater Toronto Area for over 45 years. As one of Canada’s leading Black-led and Black-serving (B3) organizations, TCS delivers a range of culturally responsive programs in counselling, childcare, education, employment, food security, youth development, and community well-being. Requirements

  • Must meet Canada Summer Jobs eligibility (see below).
  • Minimum pursuing post-secondary education in Childcare, Youth Development, Community Services, or related field
  • Experience in the community services sector
  • Ability to respond to problems and make contingency plans
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills
  • A pleasant demeanor and positive attitude
  • Flexible and approachable
  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment.
  • Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
  • Have a valid Social Insurance Number (SIN); and
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Responsibilities

  • Leading activities for campers including inquiry and discussion
  • Assist with the implementation of a weekly schedule for assigned camp groups
  • Assisting campers in learning more about Camp STEAM projects
  • Creating a fun, enjoyable, and safe atmosphere for campers
  • Modelling appropriate behaviour and positive interactions
  • Engaging with each camper as they work through activities
  • Ensuring that all campers under your care are treated equally, consistently, and fairly
  • Providing consistent and specific direction in the supervision of campers
  • Communicate with parents/guardians about campers’ experiences and report concerns
  • Demonstrating a positive attitude, thoughtfulness, and good decision-making
  • Being self-confident and able to accept and adopt constructive feedback
  • Following all daily campsite cleaning procedures
