About The Position

The Program Coordinator of the Child Passenger Safety Program is responsible for program development and administration of the CPS program for patients with identified needs in the inpatient and outpatient setting. This is a grant funded position through IDOT.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Background in clinical settings a plus.
  • Background in injury prevention or CPS preferred.
  • Child Passenger Certification preferred or to be obtained within first two months of job employment.
  • Obtain a special needs CPS certification.
  • Arrange for special needs certification within first six months of employment if not currently certified.
  • CPR required: Only certifications issued by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross will be accepted.
  • Good writing skills
  • experience with databases
  • good organizational skills
  • ability to work independently and make decisions
  • experience working in a hospital or clinic and with pediatric and/or chronically-ill populations a plus.
  • Experience working at the community level preferred (with individuals, schools, local agencies, etc.).
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn about injury prevention
  • ability to facilitate and participate in community organizations, including public speaking.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assisting with seat installation in the inpatient and outpatient settings and working with outside vendors for CPS equipment/products to ensure safe transportation of children with special needs
  • Maintain special needs car seat loan program in accordance with agreement with Children’s Hospital of Illinois and IDOT
  • Maintain the paperwork and equipment used for the program
  • Maintain database for program tracking including data regarding seat distribution, educational programs and meeting any funder requirements
  • Responsible for all data collection and reports for IDOT
  • Provide supports and education within La Rabida and with local community agencies dedicated to the interests of special needs children and CPS focused agencies in the Chicagoland area to ensure continuity of the CPS program
  • Ensure Protected Health Information (PHI) is secure and treated in accordance with Hospital Policies and Procedures.
  • Collaborate with other hospital departments/personnel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
