About The Position

Belmont University is seeking a qualified Program Chair for the School of Physical Therapy. This is a Tenure Track Faculty, Full-Time position within the Coll Pharmacy&Health Sciences department. The Program Chair will provide strategic leadership for the School of Physical Therapy, aligning with CPHS priorities and collaborating with university leadership. Responsibilities include overseeing curriculum, faculty and staff leadership, student recruitment and retention, clinical partnerships, financial management, facilities and resource management, communication, and fundraising. As a core faculty member, the role also involves teaching in the DPT program, advising students, engaging in scholarly activity, participating in committees, and adhering to university policies.

Requirements

Demonstrated capacity to engage in high quality scholarly activity.
Demonstrated ability to advise, instruct, manage, motivate and evaluate students.
Skilled in the use of computers, Internet resources, and MS Office software.
Ability to learn relevant sections of Canvas (learning management system) and BannerWeb, Belmont University’s online integrated database system for student grading.
Ability to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process.
Ability to successfully interact with students, other educators and educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Knowledge of the programs and services offered by Belmont University.
Interest and ability to work collaboratively in course design and to teach interdisciplinary and topical courses.
Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
Academic doctorate required; PT degree with preferred ABPTS specialty certification.
Eligible for Tennessee Physical Therapy license.
Holds an active, unencumbered PT license and is in compliance with the state practice act.
Has an earned academic doctoral degree.
Has a minimum of six years of full-time higher education experience, with a minimum of three years of full-time experience as a core faculty member in a CAPTE-accredited entry-level physical therapist education program.
Has experience/professional development/education in administration, management, and leadership. Experience and professional development derived from the clinic is acceptable.
Professional development and/or education in all of the following: educational theory and methodology, instructional design, student evaluation, and outcome assessment.
Has experience in fiscal management. Experience derived from the clinic is acceptable.
Has experience or formal training in program evaluation, assessment, and curriculum development.
Is familiar with CAPTE accreditation requirements and has experience with other accreditation and/or regulatory agencies. Experience derived from the clinic is acceptable.
Has prior engagement at the academy/academic institutional level.
Selected candidate will be required to complete a background check satisfactory to the University.

Responsibilities

Set the vision, goals, and strategic priorities for the School of Physical Therapy, aligning with CPHS priorities and working closely with the Dean, Associate Deans, Vice Chair, and Director of Clinical Education.
Lead School governance through collaborative, inclusive planning; conduct School meetings; and implement long-range programs, plans, and policies.
Oversee curriculum design, course scheduling, program review, and support accreditation processes in partnership with the Assistant Dean of Assessment and Accreditation.
Supervise, evaluate, and mentor faculty and staff; manage workloads, professional development plans, annual reviews, and promotion/tenure recommendations.
Lead recruitment and retention strategy for the program, staying current on best practices and partnering with the AD for Student Success and Formation.
Establish and maintain clinical practice agreements and site relationships, ensuring clear expectations, revenue tracking, and timely issue resolution.
Prepare and administer the School's budget, pursue outside funding, and align spending with strategic and revenue priorities.
Oversee physical space, equipment inventory, security, and maintenance needs for the School.
Lead internal and external communications (newsletters, reports, media) and represent the School to outside institutions and organizations.
Partner with the Dean and CPHS Development team on fundraising strategy, campaign execution, and donor relationship management.
Complete equivalent of 18 workload hours per academic year.
Teach in the entry-level DPT program.
Advise and mentor students in research and other class-related projects.
Engage in activities to support the mission and vision of Belmont University and the college in which you teach.
Participate in departmental and university committee work.
Engage in scholarly activity and professional development.
Participate in a local church and the community.
Abide by all relevant university and/or department procedures and policies.
Manage online grading system.
Maintain regular office hours.
