About The Position

Somerset West Community Health Centre (SWCHC) is a non-profit, community-governed organization established in 1978, serving over 18,000 clients annually. SWCHC offers a wide range of health care services including primary health care, health promotion, community development, mental health, and harm reduction. Requirements

  • Experience working directly with child and youth
  • Experience and flexibility working in diverse community-based programs with families facing multiple health risks and barriers
  • Post secondary education in a related field
  • Fluency in English required
  • Criminal Reference check for working with vulnerable populations
  • Current CPR level C, First Aid
  • Adequate energy level and ability to meet the physical demands of the job
  • Strong knowledge of child development and behaviour guidance techniques
  • Effective at communicating and problem solving

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of French
  • Food Handlers and High Five Certification

Responsibilities

  • Direct service with children 6-12 years at an After School Program
  • Assists to plan programs that enhance cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development
  • Implements and assists to monitor, and evaluate community based programs
  • Assists to register and maintain files and daily attendance for each child registered and participating in community based program
  • Provide updates and contacts parents when necessary
  • Monitor and maintain/purchase adequate supplies and equipment for programming
  • Create linkages with available community resources i.e. local schools, recreation centres
  • Ensure all program safety measures are being met
  • Works closely with volunteers and student placements
