About The Position

Hillel of Silicon Valley is seeking a warm, dynamic, and creative Program and Engagement Associate to oversee Jewish life across five main campuses and at the Hillel of Silicon Valley House. This role involves planning and staffing events, including nights and weekends, and requires timely communication with students via various channels. The associate must possess excellent administrative skills, be approachable, personable, and sensitive, and ideally have a Jewish education background to serve as a role model and educator. The position involves guiding and empowering students to create programs, workshops, discussion groups, and more, with a focus on building one-on-one relationships with unengaged students and identifying leadership potential. The student population is largely commuter-based, with many identifying more culturally than religiously Jewish.

Requirements

  • 0-2 years of professional work experience
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Informal or formal Jewish education background
  • Comfort in being a Jewish role model for students
  • A dynamic and outgoing personality, creativity, flexibility, a sense of humor, and excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Fluency and comfort with Jewish knowledge, ideas, traditions, conversations, and practices
  • The ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments and execute program plans

Responsibilities

  • Meet with students to engage them, identify interests, and connect them to opportunities.
  • Meet with students to help connect them with leadership roles in Hillel.
  • Map out a plan to strategically build one-on-one relationships with unengaged students.
  • Plan and facilitate weekly student intern meetings.
  • Supervise student interns responsible for engaging their peers in Jewish life.
  • Recruit for Alternative Break and Birthright Israel trips.
  • Empower others with real responsibility and support the team.
  • Guide and encourage students to take on leadership roles and develop programs.
  • Develop formal and informal training programs for student leaders.
  • Advise Jewish student group boards with meetings and program planning.
  • Be available for student-initiated private discussions and make referrals to counseling or other resources.
  • Implement, facilitate, and guide the Jewish Learning Fellowship, student internships, and other student-driven projects.
  • Contact uninvolved students through personal calls, social media, email, tabling, and one-on-one conversations.
  • Identify uninvolved student populations and develop strategies for engagement.
  • Identify potential student leaders and interns.
  • Stay up to date with campus-wide trends and culture.
  • Keep records of interactions with new students.
  • Establish and nurture one-on-one relationships with students.
  • Guide students towards greater involvement with the Jewish community.
  • Track student participation and assist in gathering engagement data.
  • Plan and evaluate overall program strategies and offerings.
  • Support student-initiated programs.
  • Help plan, staff, organize, and recruit for Hillel programs and initiatives (e.g., Shabbat dinners, holiday celebrations, cooking classes, social action projects, Jewish learning).
  • Attend programs, including evenings, weekends, and some Jewish holidays.
  • Serve as a liaison to Jewish agencies and University organizations for partnerships.
  • Assist in the year-long recruitment effort for Taglit-Birthright Israel trips.
  • Coordinate campus and community publicity (flyers, articles, calendars, emails, social media, website).
  • Keep track of social media trends and adapt to student needs.
  • Assist with content creation and publishing for the weekly newsletter.
  • Provide regular program and engagement reports.
  • Maintain records for student information, programs, and attendance.
  • Ensure campus advisers are informed and collaborate to troubleshoot issues.
  • Coordinate registration and compliance for Jewish student groups with campus requirements.
  • Provide logistical support for assigned programs, including setup and cleanup.
  • Recruit students for Hillel’s main fundraising event and support committee members.
  • Participate in weekly supervisory sessions with the Assistant Director and other staff meetings.
  • Participate in relevant staff development opportunities.
