About The Position

Hillel of Silicon Valley is seeking a warm, dynamic, and creative Program and Engagement Associate to join its growing team. This role works closely with the Assistant Director to oversee Jewish life across five university campuses and the Hillel of Silicon Valley House. The position involves planning and staffing events, which may occur during evenings and weekends, and requires timely communication with students via phone, text, email, and social media. The ideal candidate will possess excellent administrative skills, be approachable, personable, and sensitive, and have a background in Jewish education to serve as a Jewish role model and educator. The role focuses on empowering students to create programs and take on leadership responsibilities, particularly with commuter and working students who may be new to organized Jewish community engagement.

Requirements

  • 0-2 years' professional work experience
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Comfort in being a Jewish role model for students
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Fluency and comfort with Jewish knowledge, ideas, traditions, conversations, and practices
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments

Responsibilities

  • Engage students from diverse backgrounds to identify interests and connect them to opportunities.
  • Help students find leadership roles within Hillel.
  • Develop strategies to build one-on-one relationships with unengaged students.
  • Plan and facilitate weekly student intern meetings.
  • Supervise student interns responsible for engaging their peers.
  • Recruit students for Alternative Break and Birthright Israel trips.
  • Empower students with responsibility and support team members.
  • Guide and encourage students in leadership roles and program development.
  • Develop training programs for student leaders.
  • Advise Jewish student group boards on meetings and program planning.
  • Be available for private student discussions and provide referrals.
  • Implement, facilitate, and guide the Jewish Learning Fellowship, student internships, and other student-driven projects.
  • Contact uninvolved students through various outreach methods (calls, social media, tabling, etc.).
  • Identify potential student leaders and interns.
  • Stay updated on campus trends and culture.
  • Maintain records of student interactions.
  • Establish and nurture one-on-one relationships with students.
  • Guide students towards greater involvement in the Jewish community.
  • Track student participation and engagement data.
  • Plan and evaluate overall program strategies and offerings.
  • Support student-initiated programs.
  • Help plan, staff, organize, and recruit for Hillel programs (e.g., Shabbat dinners, holiday celebrations, learning events).
  • Attend programs, including evenings, weekends, and some Jewish holidays.
  • Liaise with Jewish agencies and University organizations for partnerships.
  • Assist in year-long recruitment for Taglit-Birthright Israel trips.
  • Coordinate campus and community publicity through various channels (flyers, social media, website, etc.).
  • Track social media trends and adapt to student needs.
  • Assist with content creation for the weekly newsletter.
  • Provide regular program and engagement reports.
  • Maintain records for student information, programs, and attendance.
  • Ensure campus advisers are informed and collaborate on student group activities.
  • Coordinate registration and compliance for Jewish student groups.
  • Provide logistical support for programs, including setup and cleanup.
  • Recruit students for Hillel's main fundraising event and support committee members.
  • Be available for private student discussions and provide referrals.
  • Supervise Programming Interns.
  • Participate in weekly supervisory sessions and staff meetings.
  • Participate in relevant staff development opportunities.
