About The Position

The School of Social Ecology's vision is to be the best interdisciplinary school in the nation and internationally, where the brightest scholars and students research pressing social and environmental problems to strengthen communities and improve lives. The school hosts a workplace environment that supports wellness, creativity, teamwork, knowledge, and growth. We strive to provide a balance and flexibility for our staff that supports peak performance in our work, which serves the mission of the University and the School of Social Ecology. At the UC Irvine Social Impact Hub, we seek to translate research findings for greater use and implementation by policymakers and practitioners, and to partner with the larger community for collectively-informed research. We connect researchers and leaders to advance evidence-based practices. The research conducted by the School of Social Ecology faculty and their collaborators aims to make a difference in society and influence policy at the local, state and federal level. We host meaningful convenings of leaders across sectors and provide technical assistance and training for nonprofit organizations, agencies and businesses in our community. As a Hub, we break down silos and collaborate across the UC Irvine campus to ensure our resources and efforts are strategically aligned to create the most positive impact possible. We engage students to become influential leaders and apply their studies in innovative ways. The Newkirk Center focuses on the interaction between science and society, including the role of society in the production of knowledge and the impact of scientific knowledge on society. It seeks to analyze the processes by which scientific information is translated to the public and policy-makers. It fosters the application of science to address societal needs related to the environment, education, health care, public infrastructure, and justice. The Newkirk Center carries out its mission through research, public engagement, and events.
